MG TD TF 1500 - TF. Engine mount removal
Can anyone advise if it is possible to replace TF engine mount with engine in car Thanks |

you will have to release the hoses and the engine steady to allow the engine to be jacked to clear the studs on the plate. It can be done but you will skin your knuckles. But it is easier than the alternative, see upload Ray TF 2884 ![]() |

Others can give better advice about this ... Loosen the rear mount on the gearbox before you jack up the engine. Not sure, but I think a shop broke the eye on my gearbox when they raised the engine to replace the engine mount. Was done a couple of days after I bought the car, so I didn't know the details about our cars. Investigate if you should loosen the bearer bracket or remove the nut from the fork. The nut will be a real pain to replace with the gearbox in the car. Lonnie TF7211 |

Lonnie, I have done this a good few times with no broken mounts. When you jack up the front of the engine the load is downwards at the rear mount. This is normally broken by being too tight and snapping with the torque or too loose allowing the tranny to bounce about. 340,000 miles and not broken. Ray |

Good advise about the hoses and steady bar from Ray. Also check that the crank handle will still engage through the bumper bar. The thickness of AM front mounts can affect this. I discovered this on my TD. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Ray - Thanks for explaining that raising the engine won’t damage the eye of the gearbox eye. Lonnie TF7211 |
