MG TD TF 1500 - TF Front fender installation

I am just finishing up my TF restoration and came to the point where I would install what looks like a small fastener into the front quarter panel. I am not sure what kind fastener was used and it would appear that it it only attaches to the sheet metal of the quarter panel. I have the hole location from my original fender but the quarter panel is new so I have not drilled any additional holes. The picture attached is from the photos of the original TF9052 showing what appears to be a phillips head screw. Would appreciate some insight from those that have restored a TF. thanks

I was told that it might be a factory alignment hole to aid in positioning the fenders. Is it true, I have no idea, but my car only had one on the passenger side, the driver side, I'm assuming. was filled in years ago. PJ

There should be one wood screw per side - csk slot headed.

Paul and Dave,
Thanks for responding. If possible do either of you know what the screws thread into? To be clear we are talking about the screw and big washer attaching the fender to the quarter panel. Seems to me there is no wood in that location.

Bob,

I am attaching two pics of how they are used on my car. I have every reason to believe these are original.

I have the same Philips and large washer. Probably just keeps the gap and piping tight there.
Can I ask your chassis number please Bob?

The serial number is 9617 an MGTF 1500. The best I can tell from everyone's input is that it just threads into the sheet metal. Which I guess, as you point out, is to hold the piping in place.
