MG TD TF 1500 - TF Glove Boxes
Posted before as an afterthought in another thread so it probably got missed. Can the glove boxes be installed after the dash is installed? I've decided to get new boxes and don't have them yet but would like to get the dash wired up and everything in place. The wiper shafts are of a concern once the dash is installed and putting the boxes in after the dash is installed. The glove boxes were missing in my car when I bought it, so I need the whole works. I found it is possible but certainly not easy. The biggest issue is the wiper spindle shafts. I had to disconnect the lower brace and the side bolts and rock it away and it was still a major effort. If given a choice I would always put them in first. |

Thanks LaVerne, I thought the wiper spindles would be the problem. I have other things to do, so I believe I'll wait until I get the new boxes. April when Moss has their Summer sale, I have a big order, new top, side curtains plus a few other bits, I'll order them then. Thanks for the heads up. PJ |

Paul, I've been told to install in this order: wiper boxes, windscreen brackets with the glass frame, dash-mounted rear view mirror, and front kick panels- then the dashboard with the glove boxes already installed in the panel.Am I leaving out something? How about drill holes for the tonneau front snaps: drill them before or after?Mine were welded shut by body man. Question: what is used to attach the glove box upper to the lower section? small nuts/bolts? Screws? I heard of using a rivet, but what kind of rivet? Also, I have a pair of NOS glove box bottoms I'm going to post on Ebay tomorrow (Sunday). They will be half of the Moss price. Please let me know if you're interested. thanks, Tyler |

Hi Tyler, Small biffrucated rivets were used - the ones with two split legs. Mine now has small nuts, bolts and washers. Hi Paul, You will stand a better chance of attaching the glove boxe if you are able to make up some nuts about 1" long. You will have a terrible job starting normal nuts on the studs that protrude from the dash board Jan |

Paul Bifurcated rivets, the larger hole is for the mileage trip cable Neville |

Tyler I'd drill and mount the lift the dot studs before you go any farther. It will be tough to get the nuts on them after the fact. Also after you get the dash in (your order is pretty good) ..."then" you can raise the steering column and fasten it in place. Also if haven't already done so...mount the cowl pad before you install the dash....with the grab handle. Although I did not do so..you might want to consider leaving out the lower screw on the windscreen side support support that gets hidden by the cowl stanchion. It will keep you from having to go through this should you ever need to replace the glass. |

Tyler, I 'm interested in the boxes, please email me. PJ pgc161@fairpoint dot net |

Tyler, You have mail. When and by who the boxes were shipped. PJ |

As an OBTW (wish I had done it) I would strongly consider installing a disconnect plug for all the dash wiring. |

As of now, I received a notice from FedEx they have a package for me, but undeliverable for some reason. I have no tracking number, if the boxes were sent through FedEx. Waiting on the boxes is holding me up on the dash and wiring. Makes no sense, as they have my email address and property address. Might be one of those bogus emails?? PJ |

Contact Fed-X through another source...Not a "link" from the email. Sometimes just looking at the full address of the email will give a good indication if it is a scam. I use a different email account for websites I don't fully trust. That account is always full of crap like this. "Mr. Dover" gets a lot of bogus "Dear Ben" emails! LOL bendover@gmail |
