MG TD TF 1500 - TF goes for its first ride in 50 years!

I finally drove the TF out of the barn for the first time, a day I was not sure would ever come!

Thanks all for your comments. Tim, It ran surprisingly well- I had not started it since last year- and before that had not started it in about 15 years- I tuned it over a few times and the oil pressure came right up, then it started on the first try and it ran very smoothly. This was all very lucky as other than doing a valve job when I first got the car 40 years ago , the engine is just as it was when I bought it. Transmission shifted nicely with no problems. There are lots of little bugs to work out though, and I have only driven it about one mile to the gas station and back! Steve, I will have to drive it quite a bit locally to see if it seems reliable enough for a trip to NH. This is by no means a "show car" I have kept the worn chrome where it existed and painted the car myself out behind the barn, so it would blend in well with the patina of much of the brightwork. I would never have been able to get it to this point without all the great advice as well as various component rebuilding services from the usual suspects on this board.
Many Thanks,
JKB

JK,

It really does look good in the photos and I'm very happy for you now that its on the road. The almond green paint work looks very good.

I'm looking forward to the day when I get mine this far.

Thanks, Charlie- I am very happy with the progress on my
TF, there are still many adjustments still to make, but driving it is a big milestone. Best of luck with your car-it will be worth all the work when it is back on the road.

Congratulations JKB. A significant achievement after all those years.

I hope to put up a similar thread one day in the not too distant future.

Cheers, Michael
