MG TD TF 1500 - TF Interior Free to Anyone Who Wants It

I have almost a full set of red upholstery taken from a 1954 TF. It is in dreadful condition and useless for fitting to a car but would be invaluable for pattern making or even colour matching (some of the hidden bits are still in the original colour). I don't want any money for them and will package up if necessary but the "buyer" will have to arrange for a courier. They are located in Glasgow.

Cheers

Jan M.G. TTORC would like to take possession of this material and would be willing to pay for the shipping costs to Sydney Australia. We would then provide this valuable resource to our members who could then produce far more accurate upholstery than is currently available from any of the suppliers. Many thanks. Please contact me offline and our club will pay you direct. pjbm@bigpond.com Cheers

Hi Peter I have sent you a personal email with photographs of the upholstery. Just confirm that you want the items and I will parcel up and provide you with the dimensions and weight and my address. It will be far better for you to organise a courier since the only experience I have on Aussie customs is watching Border Control Australia on the TV. You will be amazed at the difference in colour between the exposed parts of the upholstery and the bits that have been hidden from the light.

Thanks Jan. I'll have a look at the images and make the arrangements from this end. We also have access to the original green TF upholstery and the difference between the exposed and unexposed areas is truly amazing. Many thanks on behalf of our 131 members! I'll also send you a complimentary digital copy of the June issue of TTORC which runs to 51 pages. Cheers

Peter,
Jan,
You probably will run into problems with parcel post to Australia via the normal postal service due to the Covid-19. It is not possible -at least from here. Courier services might take it on but will be pretty expensive.

An ignition switch for my Stag took nine weeks and arrived two weeks ago. A pair of shoes took less than 9 days and arrived today. Both sent parcel post from UK!

Correction the shoes came DHL

Chris,
As far as I can see from the Deutsche Post website the restrictions only apply to private persons. It may be different for registered companies.

The first step is to receive the email and the pics from Jan but for some odd reason this seems to have gone astray. I'm able to receive attachments in excess of 65 meg so that can't be the issue. I do realise that coordinating this from the other side of the world wont be easy, but I'm nothing if not tenacious. :-) Cheers

I had a painting sent from Adelaide to Buffalo, NY. Normal routing would have been via Melbourne or Sydney to do Customs in LAX and be with me in 5 to 7 days.

Mine took a couple of weeks to leave via Perth, then somehow to New York, to San Francisco for Customs to me in Buffalo. Time elapsed, over 4 weeks.

I have something to send to Oz but am holding off until things calm down somewhat, especially with Melbourne back on lockdown again.

Hi Jan. The email and pics have now arrived. I'd very much like to take possession of the items in pics 651, 710 and 747 on behalf of our club. I have a set of original one owner TF door cards in red and also the rear wheel arch covers, and these are in great condition, but no seat covers. These red seat covers of yours will be extremely useful as templates and the colour can be compared against the red upholstery in my possession. The other items may be of use to other restorers. If you could package the seat covers and give me the weight and package dimensions I'll arrange for the shipping. Again many thanks on behalf of the M.G. TTORC T Type restorers here. Cheers

Hi Peter,

The seat covers would pack up better if I removed the strips of wadding that form the flutes. I could do this by slitting the cloth backing so all material is present for making templates and perhaps just leave a single flute intact.

If anyone else wants the door cards and rear arch cover just let me know before I bin them

Jan if you could leave one or two of the better preserved wads, that would be of real assistance, enabling a detailed 'forensic' examination of the original stuffing in terms of material, composition, width, thickness, density etc. Your offer is truly appreciated and will definitely benefit the TF restoration fraternity here. We Aussies are pretty proud of the fact that we were and will always remain the second largest market for T Types after the Yanks; and that the passion for and the appreciation of both the marque and the more original restorations, is very much alive and well here. You'll get a special mention in dispatches in our club's newsletter for your consideration and generosity. :-) Cheers

Hi Peter,

Do you still want the seat covers? I have boxed them up and they are on the dining room table awaiting pick up.

Cheers

Yes Jan, definitely. But I need all 3 dimensions, weight and a pick up address before I can arrange anything from this end. Without this info I can't prepay. Can you contact me off line? pjbm at bigpond dot com Cheers

Hi Jan. I'll see if I have your email address and contact you offline as I've not received your reply yet. Cheers

Jan I've searched all of my folders and the Outlook address book but I have no record of your email address. Just replace the 'at' with @ and the 'dot' with a . in the email address I provided above and I should receive your reply. I can't engage a courier without the length, width and height of the package as well as the all up weight. I'll also have to supply your pickup address and contact phone number, otherwise I'm unable to do anything from this end. Cheers

Peter
If you received an email from Jan on the 10/7 with the pics of the seat covers etc, couldn't you do a reply to that email address---or am I missing something here-

Hi Peter,

I have sent two emails to pjbm@bigpond.com and they appear to have been delivered. I have not received any emails from you. The box is 500mm x 650mm x 90mm and weighs 2.5 kgs. The pick up post code is G628HA and the contact number is 07799667289.

Cheers

Thanks Jan. Like Willy says it seems there are issues with bigpond emails. I'm yet to find the original email from you but it has to be filed here somewhere. I'll try replying to that when I find it. Hopefully that will work. Meanwhile I'll get on with sorting the shipping quote. Apologies for the delay. Cheers

Hi Peter,

I have sent an email to your personal address but have had notification there is a problem with your server.

I have repackaged the seat covers and they are now in two parcels. 1.5kg 330mm x 330 x 140
0.9kg 220mm x 220 x 270

Other readers will be wondering what is going on!

Cheers

Yeah I agree. This is really weird. Nothing arrived here. I'll get on the case tomorrow afternoon as I'm otherwise engaged before lunch and out tonight. It's 7.25 pm here. Cheers
