MG TD TF 1500 - TF - License plate support for US state plates
Folks,
Need your assistance again. My question is two parts: Question 1. After assembling the rear of the car I asked my Mom to see the license plate. I haven't seen it in 32 years. Would you believe that all these years she still had the car registered, insured, and the vintage 70's MA white with green lettering is still valid!! Crazy...... I saw the holes for the for the MA plate and they don't line up with the main bracket on the TF. I suppose I can fabricate something but I was browsing MOSS and found this. (451-285) Would this work? I looks like it is stamped to match the convex / dished stamping of the original main bracket? Any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Question 2: When I ordered last from Brown and Gammons I ordered these two fiber washers. It was listed along with all the other parts for the section for rear bumper / license plate parts etc... Where do these go? Picture will be after this post since you can only post one picture at at time. Thanks again Frank TF1414 ![]() |

Frank, I use the Brown and Gammons fibre washers between the black base plate (semi triangular panel) and the rectangular number plate panel. Of course the Australian/UK cars have a different type of number plate configuration compared to the USA cars as you know. Cheers Rob Grantham |

Thanks for the responses. I called MOSS and they said 451-285 is designed to fit on to the main bracket for US plate use. We'll see on Saturday when it arrives. thanks Frank TF1414 |

Frank, this car looks Beautiful!! Are you going to bring it to the GOF in Burlington next month? Perhaps a restoration seminar? I can’t wait to see it. David |

I used the Moss part for mounting my plates. My license plate bracket still had very thick rubber washers between the bumper and the bracket which makes the bracket somewhat flexible if pushed on rather than bending things-I am not home to look at it now but the fiber washers may also have been part of that set up. |
