MG TD TF 1500 - TF rocker cover gasket
I have noticed that the traditional cork based gaskets start to weep oil through the cork fairly soon after installation. Is there any other interchangeable gasket made from different material available in the UK? Neil 1955 MG TF1500 |

i DON'T KNOW WHAT THE COST WOULD BE TO HAVE A TOM LANGE SILICONE RUBBER GASKET SHIPPED over from Maine, but they don't leak!!!!!! steve |

Tom Langs silicone gasket is the best! I put them on my TF without any sealer and they don't leak a drop. They are also reusable. Well worth the money! PJ |

Declan Burns has these gaskets and they are superb, I fitted one myself. Dave H |

Neil, I have written a detailed article on T type and Y Type Rocker Cover leak rectification on the TC Owners Club Western Australia web site. It is in the section called 'Restorers Corner'. The material you use for the gasket is only a part of the issue. Silicone, nitrile or neoprene impregnated cork are all acceptable. Gasket sealing success generally relates to the quality and accuracy of the surfaces on which the gasket is applied. Cheers. Rob Grantham TF3719("Aramis"),TF9177("Athos"). |

Rob, Don't mean to hijack this thread but, My cover is in excellent condition and now looks the part, but I have a question, how in the world do you get the writing on the fill cap filled in with paint to look proper? I stare at mine every time I raise the bonnet and would love to make it look how it came from the factory. I even thought of using a black fine point indelible pen. PJ |

Hi Paul, I did it the hard way ! Several months before the 2016 Australian MG Nat Meet, I sat in our loungeroom one night with the Rocker Cover Cap,a triple E very fine paint brush, some black enamel paint and went for it. If you brush the paint carefully in one of the oil companies stamping, wait a few minutes, then use your nail to rub off any excess. You may have to paint fill a couple of times. When satisfied with the look and finish, move onto the next oil company stamping and so on. A tedious process. I am very sure the Factory had a more efficient process ! Cheers. Thanks guys for your suggestions. As Declan is nearest, I'll try him first. Neil. |
