MG TD TF 1500 - TF Storage Box Question

I need a big favor. Laying a level on your storage box lid from front to back, is it level or does it slope to the rear? Mine slopes to the rear giving 3/4 a bubble off on a level. I need to know how it's supposed to be before attaching the rear of the frame. Thanks, PJ

Paul,

Not sure how to answer your question, but I'll give it a try.
Using the level method would require the car be on perfectly level ground...mine is not. It's on jack stands and the floor slab is far from level. However the boxes appear to slope downwards approximately 3/4" towards the front of the car. In my mind that makes perfect sense as if not things would be falling out of them everytime you hit a bump.

Is that the answer you are looking for?

Dan, I should have explained it better. I am speaking of the side curtain storage box frame work, the one the lid sets in. I bought a rear panel years ago and it was pre drilled for the 4 bolts in the rear to fasten the rear of the framework to. Whoever made it and I forgot where I got it, drilled the 4 holes on an angle where one side is 1/2 inch higher than the other, I don't know which side is correct. One side is perfectly level, the other side is a 1/2 inch lower. Yes my car is on it's wheels on a flat concrete floor. If no one has the answer, I'll probably make both level and the same measurements, still won't know if this is correct. PJ

Paul,
I had to replace my tank backboard piece also (made by Fenton Bagley). It came with only the 8 fuel tank bracket holes, predrilled with capture nuts, and no (4?) holes for the rear member of the side curtain frame.

With the 2 rear (curved) corner panels installed, the rear side curtain frame piece should butt up under them all the way across the rear. Dummy-fit the rear frame bracket in place and see which of your 4 holes line up.

With no predrilled holes for me, I had to pencil-mark my targets from the inside, drill small pilot holes, then widen them from the outside.

There is no angle to consider. The rear side curtain lid frame member needs to fit snug up against the wooden bracket portion of the curved corner panels (photo).

Anyhoo, that's how I did it, and lid fits perfectly in the frame opening when done.

This is one of the few things I had to do only once!

No, you asked it right. I just had your glove box thread still in my head.

I'll step back and have another beer.

Ok, Thanks Tyler, all is well! The level side was the correct position. I raised the low side, re drilled the holes that were off, and all came out well! Filled the old hole with weld wood. Looks good. PJ
