MG TD TF 1500 - TF Tonneau Cover Lift The Dots Quantity

I can not locate any source of info that indicates the correct number of Lift The Dot studs that run along the back of the tub to secure the half tonneau to. I have seen a TF with a total of 7 studs while others have 5. It doesn't look like my car had any on the rear sheet metal panel as they are only on the 1/4 panel by the door and at the backside of the corner just above the gas tank. (They are visible in the attached photo.) Does anyone have an better idea as to how many were on the car when shipped from the factory? Thanks, Lou

Not sure what is correct, but that is all my TF has.

Go to my website and install your tonneau like I put mine on the TD. Should work great.

Warmly,

Tonneau and the corresponding studs never came with the cars - they are strictly after market, thus there is no right or wrong way to install them. Cheers - DAve

Oops! I should have indicated I'm installing a half tonneau not a full one. From what I've read the factory did provide a half tonneau but the full was dealer fitted.
Someone indicated there is instructions written by Moss on installing a half tonneau but it's for a TD. I understand it's about the same as far as the installation but it doesn't indicate the number of studs for a TF.
I'm pretty sure my car didn't have any studs over the gas tank so until I can find out if they did or didn't come from the factory like that I'm not going to drill any holes. It's easier to drill them if I need them but not so easy to get rid of them if I don't. Lou

Lou,

This may help. This is a shot of the back of my unmolested TF. I did not get a cover with the car, so I cannot confirm. 4 studs.

If you would like measurements just let me know.

I have just tried to scan a page fro Road & Track Jan 1954. (not clear enough)

It is an overhead photo and from the lay of the tonneau, it seems to agree with Dan's photo in the previous post.

If any one has an original Jan 1954 Road & Track, maybe they could get a better scan.

Use the archive search. Just a few months ago this topic came up and it even included measurements for the stud positions.
