MG TD TF 1500 - TF Wiper drive cable

The PO changed to a different wiper motor and cut the cable drive. I had been working on patching together a cable from a newer MG so I could use the original motor system but that may not prove practical. Does anyone have an inner cable or at least part of one?

I am in Canada but also have a US address in Ogdensburg NY if shipping is a concern.

Rorry - That one I think is going to be like finding hens teeth. For hard to find 'original' parts, you might try Keystone Classic Cars here in the states, a long shot but they might have it MMMGTCARS at yahoo dot com. let me know if he has one or can help. If he doesn't, maybe he can put you on to someone that has a spare or take out. This site was a good place to start. Sam in SC

I bought a new one only a year or two back, so they are around - over here anyway. The PO probably changed to a different wiper motor for the very good reason that the original system is very weak (many would say totally ineffective). I guess it depends on whether you want originality or an effective wiper. Its also possible to use the original rack cable system with a stronger wiper motor from an MGA or MGB.

Abingdon spares lists cable/conduit used, 37-080B $250. Got some nice rare stuff from Keystone years ago, so check with them too. George

Dare I say that the TF wiper system is probably the same as the Y-type? It has the same actuating knobs.

Maybe you can find such a heartless vandal that has cannibalized a Y-type for it's XPAG and had the presence of mind to salvage other parts? ;-)

No luck finding parts but thanks for suggestions. i did not want to spend about $350 Cdn so I made a substitute.
The inner drive cable was fine behind the dash but was too short to reach the motor on the firewall so I lengthened it by splicing on the housing or jacket from an old choke cable. It acts as the flexible push-pull out to the motor.
I fashioned a housing for the cable using 3/8 inch soft copper tubing bent to fit from the motor to the wiper gearbox on the right hand side of the car under
the dash.
The original TF drive cable was a press fit into the choke cable housing and a drive block from another MG (MGB perhaps?) with a stub piece of cable seemed to fit into the TF motor.
Tested and works fine. I can send details to anyone interested.
I tried to submit photos but the files are too large. Contact me Rorry dot harding at gmail dot com if you wish.
