MG TD TF 1500 - Throttle return spring
Should the throttle return spring be attached to the top bolt of the starter mount or the bottom bolt??? Steve |

Steve, Mine is connected to a separate bolt alongside of the starter. (Arrow). PJ![]() |

The two original TDs I have in the shop right now both have it mounted on the bracket bolted to the top starter bolt. Tom Lange MGT Repair |

Top starter bolt. Regards, tom |

But not directly on the bolt, rather to an L shaped bracket which, in turn, is fastened under the top starter mounting bolt. |

Did the 1250 and 1500 have a different mounting position? When I got my car it was mounted where it is now, in a separate hole along side the upper portion of the starter. The hole takes the same size bolt as the starter. I see no other purpose for that hole, the ground strap is on the other side bolted to the bell housing. It's easy to see that the casting was designed for this hole. Always a question or two on these cars, why their so interesting. PJ |

Paul, Photo? Thought externally all the blocks were basically the same. I've never seen a block with 4 screw holes where the starter motor bolts up. Gene |

Paul's not pulling your leg. Lazarus' XPAG#28839 has the same third mounting hole. Some other configuration in history must use it. Photo attached. Bud

The TC starter has a three hole mounting flange and uses that "extra" hole. |

I dont know if its "Original" but I used that hole for the bracket that clamps the speedo cable.

Yep, George nailed it...my starters use it and I didn't realize that the TD's didn't (should have known but I was visualizing a 4th hole, not the 3 that were there. Gene |
