MG TD TF 1500 - Tires again - hopefully.for the last time
Still searching for some new tires. Absolutely need for this season of driving. Need to order NOW.
Have found a Kuhmo Solus KH16 All-Season Tire - 175/55R15 77T on Amazon for $103. See:- https://www.amazon.com/Kumho-Solus-KH16-Radial-Tire/dp/B00E9P78F2/ref=sr_1_11?crid=1311XWP2ZLTN9&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.SVOsEBORAGhzSZXT0fO6YHCZC9TpC7tWHR62GP8f4FZMDHDSwaG5w0XBHn-VjmW0dqKDxOKtic2bKh7R7vW1bIw0zzBV2BVAm8ZZcOsYJ9oqef2EMrePVcjWbhND9ZcNjvj2xh00QSt5qvO14KA7ERn7KjUMtSbqU4EJHGrR9DYJmJ7hWzyNCuWPk6u6MRaUyZJtFa0wo91nkcTQdNSYiaXlsYkUc_5xZptxW1Bgr90.Mnedzx9CariLuHqFTojDQEgy2EeV9cakOVyELE9dLAo&dib_tag=se&keywords=Kumho+Power+Star+758+165%2F80R15&qid=1713794558&sprefix=kumho+power+star+758+165%2F80r15%2Caps%2C167&sr=8-11 I’ve been able to get 35,000 miles fro my Kuhmo 165 R15, but the 165 section Kuhmo is no longer available I’m concerned about the 175 section. Is that OK for our cars?. Same web-site also shows a 155 section Kuhmo. Would love a set of Vredensteins but not on my retirement budget. Any comments? Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

Kuhmo is a known brand with some good tires. Hard to say if that particular model is any good or not without trying it. The aspect ratio is pretty low, and the load rating is as well. So they may look a little small on the car and cornering won't be as sharp as a stiffer tire, although the lower profile may actually help make up for the flex and improve the ride. The Sprint Classic is only about $140 and is a fantastic tire. My local tire shop gets them for me so there's no shipping charge. |

Thanks Steve, but I'm more concerned about the aspect ratio of 175, and how it performs. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

Gord: I've had an older set of Michelin ZX 175's on my TF for quite some time. No issues at all, and they fill the wheel-well a wee bit more. Car drives and handles just fine. ![]() ![]() |

A 175/55 tyre is a lot lower profile tyre than a 165R the 175 isn't an issue but the 55 profile is - too low, a 175/55/15 is only 22.6" diameter |

The TD has a ton of room for bigger tires. It's the thing I hate most about them actually. I put 16" wheels on mine temporarily and it looked fantastic. With a low profile tire, you could probably run much wider with no issues. I would worry more about rim width for the tire, than tire width for the wheel arch. |

Coker has 165/15 Vredestein for $140 |

Bruce, I would love a set of Vredensteins, but here’s the reality ... $140.77 X5 = $703.85 Shipping to 12920 (est only, Coker won’t give exact) = $27 8% NY sales tax = $58.47 Total = $789.32 US in Canadian $ = $1,089.25 Plus possibly, new tubes Plus mounting Simply no do-able on my retirement budget. Same 5 tires if bough locally here in the Montréal area = abt $1,400.. I’m 91 now. Don’t drive the miles I used to drive. Thanks all for your unput. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |
