MG TD TF 1500 - To boot or not to boot.

Am I correct in assuming the MG TD handbrake did not come with a leather boot form the factory? Has anyone installed one? Any source for one?

Thanks

No it was an accessory. They simply snap around the lever and cod cover the pivot point. Takes a minute to install. Occasionally they are on EBay in various colors or Moss, AS, FTFU and I'm sure others have them as well in black

Tim, no pic, but I got mine from Moss, looks good and easy on and off. Mine's black. PJ

Thanks guys. Good info. Even though I polished up the handbrake mechanism I think the boot will look better, more finished. The leather is a little costly. I'll see if the wife can't make one first.

If she is successful, may be the start of a cottage industry?

Tim,
What about a center armrest?
It looks better than a simple leather boot, comfortable for both the driver and the pasenger and is easy to build .
Ask your wife!

CM my wife is a better seamstress than a carpenter. In fact I have center arm rest that came with a garage full of parts I bought. I might give it a try. But to be honest I really didn't like the looks of the ones I've seen.

I/we had a center arm rest in our 52 TD, back in the 1960's. Came with the car when I bought it, matched the red leather seats (don't know if the rest was leather). It was much appreciated by both.

Not even the TC had a "leather" boot for the park brake. It did come with a (black on all) leatherette type material boot.

Tim,
Is your arm rest like this one?

C.M. groucho

CM, no mine doesn't have a hole for the handbrake lever, just a slot. That looks rather nice.

My wife sewed one up for my TF out of scraps from an old black leather jacket. She based it on the photo in the Moss catalog and got snaps at JoAnn Fabric to fit it.

Abingdon Spares has leather and vinyl handbrake boots. We also carry the armrest, a nice addition for touring.
Our leather ones are made locally in CT.
