MG TD TF 1500 - Tonneau cover

Hi,
I need a new tonneau . Those supplied by Moss or Brown and Gammons are an obvoius choice. Don Trimming near where I live seem quite competitive. What do you think my best options are ?
D Burgess

I fitted a hood, side screens and tonneau from Don. Good quality and a good fit. Just enough fittings, you might want a few more but easy to obtain.

Sorry, no, avoid Don Trimming.

I had a hood fitted by Don Trimming 20+ years ago at their premises when the dad was running the place, show condition fit, good hood.

Went there again 5 years ago, son(?) in charge, poor fit, blamed on my windows not being true which has some validation but not for the seam leaking after 3-4 years, and now the edge trimmings feathering splits and the hood has shrunk so much that I'm put off lowering it in cooler weather let alone cold.

The cheap hood that was on my car before this for at least 8 years I could lower and raise in winter and had none of the shrinkage or cracking or leak the Don hood has.

Sitting in front of me now is the bottle of Stormseal Seam Sealer the bloke at Don suggested I get as they were looking at getting it in for themselves.

I've never had a hood leak before and all my cars have sat outside 365(6) days a year and all used all year round and all with drop roofs had the roofs dropping in winter (plastic I'd avoid lowering or raising below 5c to avoid cracking the rear windows).

Thank you for your help. Plenty of food for thought !

Got mine from Tops On Line. They are made by Robbins, I believe. Not installed yet so I can’t speak to the fit.

I have just had a tonneau cover made by Don Trimming. I am very pleased with it and would use them again. Lionel TD3490.

Lionel,
I hope things improved from when I got mine but report back in 3-5 years time.

Note my car sits outside 365(6) and gets used all year round as have all of my classics, and the cheap hood that was on the car for the first 8 years I had it was fine with the same storage and use.

I speak as I find, I used to recommend Don Trimming because the previous hood I had fitted by them at their Erdington premises was so good, another Midget owner bought a hood shortly after me and based on my recommendation and he was very unhappy with his too, all in the M & S Archives of the time.

Moss Stayfast, fits like a glove, very pleased with it! I had one like it on the 72 B and it was much quieter inside due to the heavier material than vinyl! PJ

This Moss supplied vinyl tonneau cover has been on the car for 44 years, was a good fit and has proven very durable. The only repair was to resew the zipper once. It is marked AMCO, not sure if this is still a Moss supplier.

I have a half tonneau from Moss and I think the fit and quality are good.
