MG TD TF 1500 - Too much time on my hands
This is a short video. 56 seconds.
The first half is going thru the gears with my standard exhaust. The second half is with my new remotely controlled exhaust cutout. The sound is louder but not as noticeable on video as in person. Why? 1-Because I could. 2-So I can impress my car club members when I pull up to an event. 3-I have been sheltered at home for much to long. 4-I had 63 modifications listed and compulsively wanted a round number. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aevue9W-OPo PS: Yesterday was Mobius's 70th birthday. ![]() |

Mort Just a heads up for your friend looking for a similar cutout as yours. I attempted to find a dual valve 2” cutout to no avail even after talking with the manufacturer who said that product didn’t exist. Go figure(?). But currently there are three offerings on eBay. All are sourced from the same manufacturer in China but through different vendors. Are you experiencing any additional fuel supply issues due to excess heat and the proximity of the bypass valve/pipe to the fuel lines? I’m ordering mine but will buy the dual exhaust package do I can split the system up for two cars.

With all the work and upgrades you've done to your car it's a pity we couldn't do it to ourselves!!!! Just a better back would be great. |

There were "Exhaust Cut-Out" kits back in the early 60's. You could buy them over the counter at the local auto parts stores. Basically it had one solid backside which wrapped halfway around the exhaust pipe and a hinged "front flap to go over the hole you cut out on the front side. You bolted the two halves together. Then you mounted the sheathed cable to your dash board and ran that to the hinged flap on the exhaust pipe. It was popular with drag racers who ran stock cars.
That Cut-Out kit or Exhaust Bypass kit was banned about a year later. Cheers Gary 79 MGB |

I think my 43 year old Moss supplied mild steel muffler with blown out baffles is noisier. Doesn't leak, but still been debating if I should get it replaced. |

The purpose for installing a bypass in my instance is ease of uncorking the exhaust for track use. It means that I don’t need to crawl under the car and remove the muffler and front pipe that attaches to my extractor exhaust. This particular cutout has two butterfly valves that work in unison ...as one side opens the other side closes In this manner the exhaust can be completely rerouted away from the muffler side. And yes my muffler is loud as well. I’m left tone deaf With ringing in the ears every time I take the car out since the the muffler can becomes nothing more than an empty expansion chamber. I’m lucky to get 200-600 miles from my Tourist Trophy muffler system before the packing is blown out. But a loud muffler doesn’t mean better performance. I will eventually be having a local high performance muffler shop build a chambered muffler that will withstand my driving style and maintain its decibel level. I will report on this at a later date |
