MG TD TF 1500 - Toolset - hex or round ?
While in the UK for several months, I collected quite some tools which are much more available there than in any other country. Whatīs relevant for the TD is shown below - as usual, you buy more than you need, especially when you need to complete a set ;-). So thereīs a lot more around than shown here... Includes a nice wax cloth tool roll, albeit only 5 pockets, but still very authentic. ![]() |

Hereīs one choice to make - I managed to get complete sets of spanners with either hex jaws or round jaws. My understanding from various sources is that the hex jaws are probably pre-war spanners, while the round jaws are post war ? The long Shelley screwdriver came w/o wooden handles, so my dad helped out with his carving skills. The short one still has its old wood Mike ![]() |

Nesting box spanners in the right sizes with tommy bar and a Shelley hammer (1/2 lb, though) I also have a 3/4 lp hammer, but not from Shelley. the smaller one fits better in any case Mike ![]() |

Pliers - one marked Elliot Lucas, the other one unmarked

Dunlop tyre irons, Dunlop pressure gauge, British made feeler gauges. For the Points feeler / screwdriver and for the tyre valve tool I opted for repros, since I wanted to have some money left ;-) Mike ![]() |

2 versions of the cylinder head spanner (the left one is probably the "better" one, and a choice of adjustable spanners, one King Dick, one Shelley Just to add here - One of you gentlemen wrote in a related post that you went on a similar hunt and enjoyed every moment of it. I can fully confirm that - it was a great time. Iīm sure I spent more overall tthan needed, because there were other nice bits around (complete sets of Austin spanners, various ball/pein hammers, a valve lapping tool, more screwdrivers and flat spanners, ...). But I would not want to miss the fun. Mike ![]() |

Hi Mike, Congratulations on a very nice collection of tools. In my recently found set there are round wrenches marked King Dick. The set came from a 49 or 50 Y-type. Pictures are in the original tool thread. |

Nice collection Mike, if you decide to sell any extras etc let me know, I want to start collecting a decent set... |

Mike. You are right, these sorts of tools are still around in the UK all over the place. I inherited quite a few of them from my father and frequently see lots more on eBay UK and at local swap meets. Dave H |

Willem, my spanners donīt bear any manufacturer markings (neither of the 3 sets I gathered), but my understanding is thatīs still good enough, given that Abington did not allways stick to one source. But itīs definitely a lottery win to find the real King Dick ones ! Geoffrey, will keep you posted. I am not yet through all the treasures, but I guess winter will give me time for that ;-) Rgds, Mike |

You are doing very well Mike! Here is a picture of my KD adjustable spanners. The 5th one is good for TD and TF. Did you get a grease gun and tyre pump? Matthew. ![]() |

Hi Mathew, nice selection!. I think the 5th one, thatīs the one I have (got a smaller one as well in the remainders). I do have various Tecalemite grease guns, no ENOTs thogh. Again, not exactly the right one, but definitely period correct. I did not pursue the tyre pump Best Rgds Mike |
