MG TD TF 1500 - Top washers

In Pictures, the original fasteners used to attach the top appear to be brass. That would make sense in that steel would rust and mark the top.

I have looked at all the parts suppliers and have not found this style of washer or in brass from anyone.

Any one found a source for these washers?

I am going with original on this car as much as I can.

Bruce, What do the originals look like?

Sorry, I thought I posted a picture.

Here it is.

Hi

These are standard brass cup washers from any hardware store.

Unfortunately, they are not the same as we have in hardware stores here in the US.

But I did find them. This link was sent to me by Jim Silva. Jim posts here periodically and is a master Upholsterer with many MG's/TD's under his belt.

TFs also have countersunk flanged washers in this part of the car. Looks like TDs used a countersunk,Slot Head woodscrew whereas TFs were fitted with Phillips Head woodscrews.

Rob. That is in keeping with the changes MG made. TD's used slot head screws to somewhere in the middle of production and then changed to phillips. The picture is from Chris Coopers Gallery TD 11272, which I believe puts it towards the end of 1951.

I put in an order from Restoration Supply Company.

Their web page is a bit difficult to navigate, there is no search engine.

I called the company and the folks that answered were fantastically nice. I asked if there was a minimum order. I was told there is not. I ordered the countersunk brass washers, and also a few nickel-plated brass ones for the top and for the side curtain box shelf.

I also ordered brass screws and nickel-plated ones.

They double-checked the order on the phone and even called me back to check on the specifics of the screws. All this for an order that will be less than 10 dollars.

Oh, they also send you a catalog.
