MG TD TF 1500 - Towing the TD

I am sorry I can't find my earlier post. What problems could I expect by towing the TD with a tow bar. I will disconnect the prop shaft at the rear letting it drop to the cross member and tying it forward out of the way of the spinning rear-end flange. About 800 mile tow. Your opinions will be appreciated.
Thanks, Geoff

Geoff, disconnecting the driveshaft at the differential is a smart move, but you must keep something in mind - the rear axle assembly can rotate. The nose will tip down and the fluid will drain out. Be certain that the ubolts over the axles are very tight. It also doesn't hurt to sling some sort of cable, or rope, under the front of the differential to be safe. Bud

Bud, thanks for the extra tips.
Here is the other concern I have. I have re-packed the front bearings and checked the rear axle fluid is topped up and the seals are not leaking. I am pleased all the shoes are dry and I have adjusted them so none are dragging giving me nice even breaking. Even the hand break operates evenly. In road testing the car around town, and breaking gently the front drums heat up to about 95 deg. and the left rear also, which I deem acceptable. However the right rear heats up much higher. I know the shoes are not dragging and I am concerned there is something else causing this side to heat up more than the other side. Could this be because it is the drive side of the axle? I intend to hook up the tow bar and do some practice tow's around town to check the heat build up again. I don't want to tow the car 800 miles and fry the bearing seals.
Any thoughts on this?

Both sides of the axle are driven, one no more than the other. I would back off the adjuster on the right rear drum one click.

I will do that Dave. I will also check the lubrication on the cables. Perhaps the right rear is doing all the breaking!
Thanks, Geoff
