MG TD TF 1500 - Tranny
My friend had his tranny rebuilt and a new clutch plate installed. He drove it for approx 100 miles with no problems. Then he parked in his garage for a little over 1 year. He started the car and tried to shift it into gear with no luck He shut off the eng and was now able to shift into every gear After adjusting the clutch rod several times it still would not shift with the eng running. Before we pull it out and inspect the throw out bearing is there anything else that we might try. Thanks Bill |

The clutch disc is probabl stuck to the flywheel (surface rust). It needs a shock to loosen it. Dave H |

Thanks Dave Do you think that we shoud run it in gear and try letting the clutch in and out. |

As Dave says..."The clutch disc is probabl stuck to the flywheel". With the Clutch Pedal Down....try rocking the Car in 4th Gear to free the sticking Disc. Or Start and Run in 4th Gear with the Rear Suspension securely off the ground. Clutch In and Brake Hard and see if it will come loose. Good Luck! Mike TF-8257 |

Same thing happened to me. About six months between installing rebuilt engine/gearbox and firing up Lazarus. Here's what I found when I pulled the gearbox. Bud

The MGA Guru also has several suggestions to release a stuck clutch (some sound a little too drastic to me, but not all are). Dave H |

While tricky, you can start in first, push in clutch and rev and try to break free. Of course you need a big parking lot or field or somewhere safe to do it. George |

Had this happen in MGB, engage a gear, push clutch in, start engine. Worked for me. Peter |
