MG TD TF 1500 - Transmission shifter lever
I finally have everything disconnected from my seized engine and ready to pull engine and transmission. Do I need to remove the shifter lever extension. If so any thing I need to know. I think I read one thread about pieces that can drop out of place in the transmission if shifter is not in a certain position before removing. Ben |

No you can pull it, I had a gearbox shipped cross country without a shifter. Leave the top cover in place though. Peter |

If is an early TD,just undo the 4 bolts and lift off. Do not move the selector rods as once it is off as they can overthrow the synchro hubs. If a late TD or TF, undo the bolts and slide the remote back, the gear lever will move. Note which way it moves so you can reverse the operation when re-assembling. Ray TF 2884 |

The problem is with the main top cover. The springs or balls can come out and drop into the box. No issue with the shifter housing. |
