MG TD TF 1500 - uh oh. Is this backwards?
Is this front cam bearing in reversed? It has an oil return groove pointing out to the front of the engine. I can't find any info on this. Logic would dictate that it should drain back into the crankcase. Thanks Sandy ![]() |

It is correct! It sends oil to lubricate the timing chain. Make sure you have a spring in the tensioner plunger assembly, also there is a later oil thrower for the front of the crankshaft, it has a larger diameter. Abingdon Spares stocks them. See my Abingdon Performance Facebook page. |

Well Len, that is a relief. So we can finally move ahead here. I will check that tensioner again. It has been a while, but I remember unplugging an oil port in it's body. The spring is there. The bearing is partially obstructing the oil port, just a slight bit. Should I drill this out to open it up fully? |

Great post. This type of info really helps. Mike |

The bearing is partially obstructing the oil port, just a slight bit. Should I drill this out to open it up fully? NO. If anyone wants a tool to install the front bushing, I have one to loan out. XPAG camshafts are my business! |

The groove is NOT for sending oil to the timing chain - it is for oiling the bearing surfaces between the front of the camshaft, thrust plate and sprocket. The timing chain is oiled via a hole at the end of the chain tensioner. (I would prefer to open the cambearing hole to match the hole in the block) |

So Len, do these tools also remove the bearing? Is it worth to try to remove and re-position the cam bearing? Is it even possible to reuse once removed, or are they destroyed? |
