I just discovered it's actually a 55 tooth gear. I located one in QLD but the seller wants to hang onto it. Cheers

Hi Peter,
Do you have a gear that has some stripped teeth? I did, and was able to make a small mold from the old gear, using silicone rubber. Then inserting the stripped gear into the mode so that the stripped portion of the gear was against a good portion of the mold. Then using epoxy (I think), to fill that small cavity. Had to trim a bit once it was cured, but it did work out OK, and is still going.
I think I saw that method somewhere on the web, don't know where, after 5-6 yrs the mind has leaked. I did take about 9 pix of the process, and can email them to you if you'd like. They are low res., but can be enlarged a bit. No explanation of the process is there with them in my archives.
Hope this will help you,

Hi again, I realized that you have a 55 tooth gear, much larger than what I fixed.

Hi Al. No gear to use as a template. I could have the gears made from scratch - one watchmaker in Melbourne quoted $700! - but who's got that sort of money. The tough part is creating the odd shaped hole in the centre of the gears. See pic. The shaft engages with the gear. This is a 61 tooth from a TF. The original 5.125's 64 tooth gear doesn't have the raised section. Cheers

Peter,
If you cannot find a 55 tooth gear, it might be quite possible to make that gear using a 3D printer out of plastic. Is the external diameter for the 55 tooth gear the same as that for the 64 tooth gear? I have a 64 tooth gear that I could measure up.
We are doing a lot of experiments with 3D printing at the moment.

I cant be sure from the picture but it looks like the shaft has a round bottomed grove. In a sense its 1/2 if a long hole.
The dial on my SB lathes are held in place with just such a fixing.
You do not need to form the mating protrusion in the bore of the gear. You just need the mating 1/2 hole in the gear and a short round key or keeper.

If needed I can take a picture for you.

Thanks Jim however I believe I have found a pair of 54 tooth gears in England. Cheers

Hi Declan. I assume that the diameter is the same, however as I've now ordered the two new 54 tooth brass gears, manufacture is not required. I'll be writing a 'how to' on the disassembly/reassembly of the odometer/tripmeter mechanism & the replacement of the ratchet gears, based on my experience. This is not for publication but I'm happy to pass it on to any others who are contemplating the 4.3 conversion, as long as it's for their own use. Thanks to those who've assisted me especially Hugh, Bud & John S. Mission accomplished. Cheers
