MG TD TF 1500 - Water pump circlip for later model (TF)
I've gone through the archives extensively on this and still can't find a part number. I'm looking for the circlip that fits onto the shaft of the later TF water pump. Mine broke... and I can probably take the shaft down to a bearing house or even maybe just the local hardware store but I was wondering if anyone had a modern part number for an equivalent? (Moss does not sell these). I'm referring to the small circlip or retaining ring that fits on the shaft, not the large 37mm internal retaining rings that fit on the pump body. I did find part numbers for those in the archives... Thanks for the help! In other news, I got the water pump seal from Bob Schapel in Oz and it's a perfect fit. Between the seal and modern SKF sealed bearings, I have almost everything I need to rebuild the pump without needing to modify anything... |

Geoffrey, possibly NAPPA might have one of the correct size. My NAPPA has quite a few C clips, internal and external, metric and std. Worth a try. PJ |

Thanks Paul; I am going to check hardware, bearing and auto parts stores till I find the right one. I'm quite confident there must be a modern equivalent; I was just hoping someone had a part number already. |

My car has a late model replacement pump. The grease fitting is just for show. PJ |

A half inch circlip from Ace Hardware fit perfectly. It's a little thinner but after assembling the pump there is no end play at all. So far so good! |

Goeff, FINALLY we have a person in the States who ordered, recieved and installed one of these illusive seals,,,, you have put the complete supply chain together.. Can you please send me all of the info ie., the mailing address and all of the other info/prices/part numbers, shipping method etc?? Either here or my e-mail MGTD52 at COMCAST dot NET Thanks, Steve |

Steve, I will be happy to. I still have to pick up some 37mm internal circlips of the correct thickness. When I get that part and confirm it's a good fit, I'll send you everything. In the meantime, the seal should be ordered through Bob Schapel in AU <bobschapel@optusnet.com.au> He did not supply it in the original box so I don't have a part number, but at $31 US including shipping it was a reasonable price for a solution that has been impossible up until now. For bearings, I used these from ebay: SKF BEARING 6301 2RS1/C3 6301 , that is a number cross referenced off the bearing numbers Bob gave me. For 37mm circlips, I believe this part number should get you the correct items but I haven't confirmed this yet. It came off this forum.. DHO-037-PA |
