MG TD TF 1500 - Water Pump Grease Nipple Thread
Anyone know the thread type & size on the original TC & TF water pump grease nipple? Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Peter, Mine is 5/16", 22 TPI, BSF. John |
John Walton |
You sure that's the grease nipple John & not the pulley end of the shaft? Cheers Peter TD 5801 |
P Hehir |
I would have thought 1/8" BSP, which has an OD of 0.383" and 28 TPI. If larger, it could be 1/4" BSP, with OD 0.518" and 19 TPI. |

Definately 5/16" BSF. I ran a tap through the hole just to check. John |

The shaft is also 5/16" BSF. John |

Thanks John. I have a 5/16" BSF tap so I'll double check & then proceed with confidence. I need to use the threaded hole to secure the TC pump to a hunk of steel round stock which I can then offer up to the lathe. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Peter, Are you machining for a new seal ???? Steve |
Steve Wincze |
Yes Steve. But that will only be for the original TC pump which I'll get onto a little later. The TF pump that I'm restoring now doesn't require machining, apart from dressing the face of the impeller. I have all the components now including a new seal & I'm almost ready to assemble it. Picked up the new circlips with eyes, the 1 1/2" RMS (to hold the TC pump in the lathe) & some 9/16" 316 stainless rod this morning, so I can make some new shafts if needs be. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

The machinist who is making the 8 new 316 stainless shafts for me confirms the thread on the two original shafts I gave him to use as templates, is 5/16" UNF. The grease nipple in the body of the pump is definitely 5/16" BSF. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |
