Just to be clear, this isn't a real ad. But it's funny though. ;) |

What I find interesting is that a lot of folks have no idea what it is really for. Was at a friends house who had washed his engine compartment and gotten his electrical system wet. Car would not start. Looked in his garage and saw a couple of cans of WD 40. Sprayed the distributor with it and the car started right up. My friend looks at me and says. Wow, I did not know it did that? |

From the WD 40 web site: "WD-40® literally stands for Water Displacement, 40th formula. That's the name straight out of the lab book used by the chemist who developed the product back in 1953. The chemist, Norm Larsen, was attempting to concoct a formula to prevent corrosion—a task which is done by displacing water. Norm's persistence paid off when he perfected the formula on his 40th try." |

In a related story... who here knows why '3-in-One' oil is called 3-in-one? Well, check this ad from 1935 for the answer! ![]() |

Steve I spilled a few drops on my black ceramic painted exhaust some days later but before it had been set at engine temperature & it removed the coating completely. I was less than impressed. Maybe it only affects ceramic based paint? Cheers Peter TD 5801 |
