MG TD TF 1500 - Where are rubber 1/2' pipe elbows?
Reinstalling the Arnolt heater has run into a snag. Seems no one carries the good old fashioned rubber 1/2" pipe elbows as seen in http://www.ttalk.info/Tech/AHEAT3B.JPG. It's the simplest way to hook it up without a lot of soldering. Some plumbing shops don't even know what one looks like. You can emulate one with 4 hose clamps and a copper elbow. Yikes Anybody know where I can buy some. Used to be any hardware store. Bud (Can't edit Title, I meant 1/2", i.e., inch) ![]() |

Try this if you have an Advance Auto Parts in your area, or an auto parts house that carries Dayco products. https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/dayco-90-degree-coolant-hose-80393/19590174-p?product_channel=local&store=9890&adtype=pla_with_promotion&product_channel=local&store_code=9890&gclid=Cj0KCQjwlumhBhClARIsABO6p-xmPtntv8QjcyosIiby8vVV2dB8bwWZmcaKGqwdJk4hOPViyvhg6okaAigMEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds |

Thanks B.W., Jim, but one possible issue. A US 1/2" pipe has an o.d. of 5/8", i.e., .625". The connection flanges on an Arnolt adapter are also 5/8". Are these elbows designed so as to expand onto the pipe for greater security? I've never measured a stock rubber elbow.
There are three Advance stores within Marietta, GA. I'll be at one tomorrow, thanks. Thanks for the pdf lead, B.W., it's the same stock as Jim knew about. I may have passed some up at a Home Depot today. I was looking for the flanges that are at the ends of the rubber ones. Thanks, guys. Bud |

Is this not the same size elbow that is found on the air cleaner? If so I am sure the MG Parts dealers price would be competitive. :-) |

Thanks, Chris. I never thought of that. The part goes for a bout $17+ at Moss or A/S and $8.29 at Advance. Now to go and measure the snout on the air cleaner. BINGO - it's 5/8" (as is snout on valve cover). Anxious to make tomorrow's spin to Advance. Bud |

Pretty sure they will expand somewhat. How much I'm not sure. Likely depends on the material/construction. A little petro jelly might help slip it on assuming any hose size/snout size difference isn't too much. :) |

Advance is showing this one in 5/8 in stock at their 180 N Fairground St NE store. https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/dayco-90-degree-coolant-hose-80401/5198380-P?searchTerm=dayco+90+degree+5%2F8+inch+heater+hose Might be stocked at one of the other store there as well. |

Moss motors in the TR3 section Regards, Tom |

Gottem'. As Jim 'scoped out, the Advance store had one and then sent me to a nearby store to get another. With a military discount they cost $12.86 each. The store also had the 1/2" version. I tried it with the Arnolt adapter. It was much too small an opening. The extra length of the 5/8" version will allow me to align the copper pipes in a side-by-side configuration the allows me to insert a parallel plug into them if I drain the heater. Thanks for the help, guys. Bud |

I just asked if I could go back to the hose rack and found some hoses at Advance Auto. I found a variety of 45 and 90 degree hoses. I had to cut them down, but no issue.

I'll be doing the same thing, Bruce. After years of being a NAPA person (I once owned a NAPA store), I may be Advancing. Bud |

I just completed (not yet tested) the installation of an Arnolt heater without the Arnolt Adapter and with no rubber 90 degree elbows. I'll get some images up later. Just wanted to keep this on the page. See Arnolt Heater Installation Sequence thread for Declan's workmanship. My attempt will be there shortly. Bud |
