MG TD TF 1500 - Where the hell did all this room come from?

Is this what's possible if you eliminate the side curtain box?? From barely enough room for two, to a four seater?

HA.... push the seats back as with the black one.

Just 'cause it looks like a seat......

Cannot open either photo but INSKIP in New York built a few MG-TD's with extended bodies and larger doors that had rear seats. Apparently they were importers that were asked did they wish to continue importing or building cars.

Here is the Inskip link with the same pictures and more.

I wonder why the top (hood) frame attachments are much farther back than on all the other TDs I've seen? Is the body longer?

Tim, look at the length of the doors. There is no tub area where the standard TD hood pivot would be mounted. The rear section of the tub from the rear of the tub to the point where the top of the tub curves downward is shorter than on a standard TD. Hope this makes sense. Bud

Bud, I'm confused. If the tub, from the rear to the downward curvature, is shorter wouldn't positioning the hood frame attachments further back make the hood stick out over the rear edge of the tub? Also, it looks like there is plenty of room to attach the hood frame bracket to the same location as in regular TDs. See the attached photo. I'm probably missing something here.

Tim, the hood is not framed as is a standard TD. The over-door section is a good bit longer. Look at the Inskip images. Bud

Ok, that makes sense. Thanks Bud. I'm slow but I'm not very fast. :-)

Bud, Tim
Correct me if I'm wrong but the car was stretched 10" longer and the folded hood does extend aft of the rear of the tub as the photos show. There seems to be two notches in the rear rail to accommodate one of the folded hood bows.

Mike, if the rear seat back sits against the rear of the tube and the hood sits behind the rear seat back then it does indeed sit behind the rear of the tub.
