MG TD TF 1500 - Which Tyres for my MGTD?

The TD is with me already 45 years, hard to believe!

She was fully rebuild over a number of years, already completed over 12 years ago and very low mileage since, owing to my overseas work.

The tyres have still good tread, however, I have noticed a crack on the side wall and consider it best to fit new.

The current tyres are Michelin ZX 165 15.

Any advice welcomed on good options for new tyres please, car is in England.

Tour of the Scottish Outer Hebrides planned for next summer, hoping to have the TD, the TC and the MGA ready..

Best,

Doug

I fitted Blockley tyres - same size as you have. Very nice tyres indeed, but Longstome have some great bargains on Michelin XZX at present and they aren't bad either.

Click on Archive tab to the right upper corner of the screen. Enter tires, search. Then scroll down to the Ts, and there are many entries about tires. Michelin is again making the same tires you have (or maybe XZX?), I think they are the best. George

IMO Michelin! Their is no better for wear, tire life, and traction! They have always been the best since about 1953!

Dave H,

Thanks for the suggestion, I have contacted Blockley's and received a super fast reply from Julian Majzub.

Looks like I will have Blockley tyres on the TD as well as the TC.

I agree with Len. I think Michelins are the best choice for the TD/TF.

I suspect the best criteria to use is handling. Longevity on most T cars is not an issue as few cars will ever get the miles in before they rot. :-)

I agree that Michelins are the best choice. Here in the US we have various Chinese tires, Hankook, Nexen and others. They are available in 165x15 size, last perfectly well, and handle well also. Cost is less than half what Michelins cost. You might wish to ask around and see what similar tires are available in the UK,as they will age out long before they wear out.

I USE VREDERSTEEN SPRINT CLASSIC 155 X R15 ON MY TF.
NICE RIDE, QUIET, GOOD HANDLING AND LOW COST. I BOUGHT
THEM FOR $22O FOR 5 TYRES.
SEE NO NEED FOR 165 ON A T CAR.
