MG TD TF 1500 - Why I like LEDs part deux

I switched out the incandescent bulbs for LED in the fog lights on my 51 TD. As you can see the current draw is minimal with the LEDs. This isn't about providing extra capacity for the generator or adding high wattage accessories. It is about reducing wear and tear on the electrical components, especially the switches, on the car.

Does someone supply LED bulbs in positive earth for the Lucas SFT 576 and WLR 576 accessory lamps that were common in the 50s and 60s?

John, go to this page.

Check out the section, "Single Filament Equivalent Headlamp Bulbs"

I bought these bulbs for my SFT fog lamps. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2x-P36S-BPF-P323-Lucas-LLB323-45W-CREE-LED-Fog-Light-Spotlight-Bulb-White-12V/221382343478?hash=item338b6a7b36:g:SnMAAOSw~bFWGLwa They don't specify the polarity but they work with my negative ground car.

John, just got a message back from the Ebay seller. they only have negative earth bulbs.

That's strange. These ones look similar and work with the SFT 462 lamps on my positive ground TD: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-45W-CREE-LED-LUCAS-LLB323-SPOTLIGHT-FOG-LIGHT-BULBS-12v-P36s-SFT576-SFT700/323193231550?hash=item4b3fd158be:g:oDkAAOSw4SlV7jjW.

Polarity isn't mentioned in the listing and I think they could actually be designed to fit both positive and negative.

Tim W, they look identical to the bulbs I have. The Cree numbers are the same. As I said the seller of the bulbs I bought replied that they only came in negative ground. I was under the impression that LED were earth sensitive. But perhaps they are making LEDs that can be installed on positive or negative ground cars. I asked your seller if his bulbs come in positive ground. I'll report back if I get an answer.

You're right of course, LEDs are certainly polarity sensitive, but I imagine they could be designed with a diode bridge to connect either polarity.

I checked with the Ebay vendor in Timothy Burchfield's post above and received a response they are only for negative ground. So I await some vendor to offer them in positive ground.

John, did you contact http://www.dynamoregulatorconversions.com/led-headlamp-bulbs-shop.php

Yes thanks, a response from this vendor indicates that item number 3 on this link is suitable for positive ground.
