MG TD TF 1500 - Windscreen/shield side supports
I wave just assembled my screen after having all parts chromed. The side supports had not previously been fitted to the cowl mounts as the car came in many bits. I know that the left hand unit had been repaired in the past and is a bit shorter at the bottom. The other side looked original.
The RHS support will not locate onto the cowl support (first picture)it is interfering at the bottom and would not rotate to give a screen down position either. The LHS does fit onto the cowl support but will not rotate s the leading edge catches very slightly Both have traces of silicon on them as I found this after fitting to the screen ![]() |

The question is - anybody had similar issues ? Should I grind off material from the bottom leading corner on each and re-chrome ? Picture if RHS unit that simply does not come together ![]() |

Here you can see the difference between the two The LHS was repaired in the past ![]() |

Mel. You have the windscreen side supports on the wrong side. The straight side goes to the rear , the bump towards the front. hope this helps. cheers. Ralph. |

Thanks for that explanation Ralph I can now see that you are right. I was struggling with the bump protruding a little past the screen frame, when the other way, but I can see that it does work correctly that way. I have heard of snow blindness but I recon I must be car-blind after over 2 years into this TD restoration ! |

If you had left it as you (incorrectly ) had it, you would have quickly discovered that the windscreen would have stood more erectly, making it impossible to fasten the hood. I covered this about 2 years ago with comparative photos ... somewhere in the archive I would imagine. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |
