MG TD TF 1500 - Windscreen wiper repairs
I have a 1950 MG TD with a Lucas CW windscreen wiper motor. It's not working. I tried to diagnose and repair it but was not successful. Who is doing good work these days on Lucas windscreen motors? Your recommendation would be appreciated. Thanks. Milt |

Milton. what went out on it? NTG sells replacement armatures, |

I wish I would have known about NTG before I created a fixture to rewind my own armature..who knew? Regards, Tom |

Bruce: The motor intermittently works. The internal on/off switch works too. The pins on the spindle are undamaged. I guess it’s the gears but I don’t know how to get inside to look. I have removed the two brass bolts. Milt |

Jerry Felper in Anaheim, California rebuilds them. |

Milt,
Remove the two screws on the front plate of the motor. Then pry off the front plate and you will find the gear set. Remove all the old grease and lube with white lithium grease. Also, lift out the armature and lubricate its bushing, first with WD40 or similar to wash old grease out, then with the same grease. Often, the shunt winding on the armature burn out from overheating which will result in a weak motor. Jerry Felper can probably rewind it, but it's often cheaper to buy a new armature from NTG or Paul Beck Vintage Parts. |

Milton. I rewound an armature once. Motor ran, but not as it should. I have that as a spare if you need one for parts. |

„Running“ is an exaggeration in any case fir a TD wiper motor. But indeed, lubrication helps a lot. Mine usually needs a bit of tlc after the winter break. Mike |
