MG TD TF 1500 - Windshield Wiper Motor Mounting

Would anyone have a detailed diagram showing how the wiper motor mounts to the frame? I have the Moss kit, but am not sure how the components fit together. Thanks...

This is what I followed. Minus the stop. Cheers

Peter, do you know what models of MG (if any) that blade stop plate was fitted. I have one in my box of parts for my 53 TD.

I’ve never seen a blade stop. It certainly didn’t come in a Lucas mounting I bought.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe the blade stop was used on several commercial vehicles and early Land Rovers. I probably have several if anyone wants one.

I was lucky enough to locate a NOS CWX Lucas wiper motor that had been sitting on top of the spare parts cupboard at the local auto electricians gathering dust for 60 years. The stop was in the box along with some other goodies including the wiring and covers for the exposed securing nuts. See pic attached. I've had the knurled covers chrome plated and will be using two of the four of them on my car as they dress up the exposed nuts beautifully. I have no evidence that they were ever fitted to TC's and TD's at the factory but if they were they would almost certainly be one of the very first items lost. Cheers

I should add that when fitting them the length of the securing studs are cut back so that the covers fit neatly over the nuts. Cheers

Tim I'm impressed with the research. I doubt anyone would be able to tell the difference though. I certainly can't. I have three others and they all appear identical. Can you list the visible differences? Cheers

Peter,

The original TD motor 75051 has a 150° sweep, whereas your 732480 is only 130°. It is an easy job to replace the main drive gear wheel to convert to 150°.

Thanks John. I'll store that piece of info away. I wonder if I'll miss that 20 degrees though? Or better yet will I ever use the wiper? I sure don't plan on cruising around in the wet. I'll be just a top down, fine weather guy. Cheers

Peter, the Lucas ref says the CW motor mounts at the top of the windscreen and that the CWX is a universal mount. FYI the CW2 mounts at the bottom of the windscreen. Perhaps the only difference in the different models is the mounting blocks. Perhaps the grease fitting in relocated depending on the model and where it is fitted. I certainly can't see any difference in the motors themselves. I doubt if any concours judge could tell the difference. As John points out the sweep is 150 degrees for the 75051D CW1 vs 130 degrees for the 732480 CWX. That just means there is a bigger sweep area not cleaned properly by the CW1 than the CWX. :-)
