MG TD TF 1500 - Wiper Motors

Who is doing TC wiper motors these days ?
Thanks

Assuming yours is obviously faulty have you considered early Land Rover ones? I believe similar although never actually tried. This guy may be able to help.

Can't say for sure but I'd been led to believe that the early Land Rover wipers were 6 volt? I tried to have an armature rewound here but couldn't find anyone with the wire, skill or equipment to do it. Cheers

No Need to rewind wit todays technology.
Just convert 12V to 6 V.

$12 on Amazon.

Thanks guys.
I'll contact Jerry.
I had my spare rebuilt about 20 years ago by someone who I can't remember. It's going into service now so I need another rebuild.

I used a 12 volt to 6 volt voltage reducers on a couple of my old tractors, works very well. As parts go, their very inexpensive. PJ

Has any one ever figured out how to increase the speed of the TC/TD wiper motor? I need about 50% more speed.
John Quilter (TD8986)

I agree with Butch. Send it to Jerry Felper. He's rebuilt hundreds of them.
Steve Simmons

Much of the speed of the wiper motor is lost in two primary areas:
1) Old, dried up grease in the gear box section. This causes the motor to struggle and will eventually lead to #2. When regreasing, use a white lithium grease like Lubriplate and clean and oil the armature shaft bushing.
2) Burned windings, especially the shunt winding on the armature. The solution is having it rewound or a new armature.

Occasionally, the field coils will also burn and need to be rewound, but this is not very common.

And before anyone asks, new armatures are available here:
https://www.vintagecarparts.co.uk/products/armature-lucas-wiper-motor-armature

They are not as good as the original Lucas armature, as they lack the shunt winding, but is the only solution for an armature that is toast.

Mine was new old stock from the Lucas warehouse in South San Francisco in 1977. Probably has 30 minutes running time since then but having said that, I guess the grease could be hardened. Luckily, I have other British cars for rainy days with less lethargic wipers.

Nothing as bad as the vacuum type from the old side valve engines. Real fun going down a hill on decelaration in the snow.
