Is there anyone in the US selling these? PJ![]() |

At GBP75 they are not cheap, probably another 10% to ship. Peter |

Hi Paul How does that work as a wire wheel balancing kit. Didn't think you had a problem with your wire wheels...did somthing happen. I have just ordered a set of 5 chrome 60 spoke wire wheels from Moss (MWS). With the exchange rate benefit euro to sterling after Brexit and a 17% reduction they applied to the wheels by mistake I saved over $700. Very happy with myself. Regards Darryl |

Paul After talking to various tire stores in our area and knowing that wire wheel splined hubs are not machined, I came up with an idea that required very little and after discussing with a local machinist the work was performed and the "tool" is used by those in our club with wire wheels. Basically we are using a Bolt on hub (Triumph) and an old knockoff. The machinist drilled the knockoff such that when it is screwed onto the splined hub all runs true. Tire stores simply fit the wheel to the hub, screw the knockoff on tight and it will then fit on any computerized balancing machine and provides an accurate balance for the wheel. It transforms your ride and the whole thing cost $25 for machining and whatever you can get the hub for. Brian |

Just received an email from Jeff Zorn, Little British Car Co. and he's looking into getting some for re sale here in the states. I'll keep everyone informed when he lets me know. PJ |

The kit shown does a similar job to what Brian describes. The white plasitc 'cones' allow the wire wheel to be mounted on a balancing machine and be properly centered acting as a 'hub' and 'spinner'. The guy who does my Jab bought one. Works. Dave |

Just a note to Darryl, I purchased a complete wire wheel kit from Moss for my TD about four years ago. I was advised to ship the wire directly to a proficient wire wheel balancer/tuner. The wire wheels as they come from the factory and supplied are not balanced. I also had the tuner supply and install a new set of tires and then balance the assembly. He also shave the tires as required to balance them and tag each wheel as to the position to put them on the car. I have never had one bit of trouble with my wheels. The car rides fine and the wheels are wearing evenly. I do know of others that purchase wire wheels and did not have them tuned. They have had a number of issues almost immediately after installation one local fellow had some spokes fly off and some break. These are just my observations from my personal history. Good luck with your new wheels. Mort |

Apparently Dayton supply their wheels ready trued... This is important as many of us will struggle to find someone to true them after... In Ireland I had to teach myself and it is a royal pain in the ... Dave |

Thanks for the advice Mort. In the last year Moss are supplying MWS wire wheels complete with tyres. They say they come balanced! I will keep in mind what you say though. It will be a while though before the car actually drives on them as I am mid way through the restoration. Unfortunately I can't imagine there is anyone in Ireland balancing wire wheels. Somthing else to think about...... |

Wheels supplied by MWS are good. I have a set and no issues at all. MWS will also supply direct, with tyres. Blockley will sell tyres with MWS wheels, and will fit and balance them for you. Dave H |

That's exactly what I am getting Dave including the Blockley tyres. Good to hear you are happy with them. 60 spoke chrome with Blockley tyres although a set for the TF is 4 and not 5! |

I went for the painted ones 4.5J x 15 and 60 spoke with 165 x 15 tyres and bought five. The only issue is finally deciding on pressure. At present on 25/26 psi. Dave H |

I built one like Brian said. Old MG hub an then lathed out the center of the knock off. My tire shop loves it. I left it with them and get free balancing for the use of the jig. |

Paul, Have you ever had the wire wheels trued or "Tuned", where all of the spokes are properly adjusted to make the rim round?? Steve |
Steve Wincze |
Steve, I checked the wheels with a dial mic and their all within .015. PJ |
