MG TD TF 1500 - Wiring Harness Clip TD - Left Front Frame Rail
I am looking for the large wiring harness clip that was used on the top of the left front frame rail (right near the cut out in the rail near the oil filter housing). This is not shown in any of the drawings or photos found in the the shop manual - though one drawing does show the finger of the open clip grasping the harness in that location. I have seen this clip one one or two TDs and would like to replace the missing clip on my 1950 RHD TD. I believe this clip is only used in this one location - no other application on the car. Does anyone have any suggestions - the clip is not listed in Moss or Abingdon Spares listings. I wonder if Hugh Pite might have one. It would be a good part for Doug Pelton to consider reproducing - though I don't believe it was used on the TCs. I will scan the image from the shop manual - though it does not really show the clip very well. Any sources appreciated. |

Is this the clip you are looking for? I got it from Abingdon before they were sold. It was not in the catalog but I talked to them on the phone and they knew about it. Jim B. ![]() |

That looks to be it - glad to know that they have it. I did not remember that it had two fingers - the one I had seen on an early TD just had the one looped finger. Good to know a source - Thanks so much Jim |

Here is the only indication I have from the Shop Manual

I would be interested in knowing if Jim's clip matches the clip found on other TDs |

I think this the clip you are looking for. I believe it came from Abingdon Spares. ![]() |

I used the same large clip at this location as well. Sorry, for some reason my iPad always downloads pictures upside down on this site.

I have the original clips which are as Rich's type with just one loop. No pictures, but one on the frame rail and the other on the inside of the bulkhead riser tower. I recall this was covered in the archives a few years ago so look there also. George |

I just wanted to follow up on this. I did order two clips from: Dennis Carpenter Ford Restoration Parts Concord, NC 800.476.9653 The Part Number for the clip is actually: "8M-14197 Wiring Clip Metal 17/32 Inch" The clips are $2.95 each The shipping was $9.99! Ouch! This clip is made in India and is not a NOS Ford Part as indicated in the Archives. It is almost identical to the MG clip. In the absence of any listing in our usual MG parts catalogs, this is a very good substitute. Note that this clip is not intended for use with brake lines or other wiring harness locations. It is only found on the left front frame rail (near the oil filter) and the inside face of the left-hand tub support bracket. Some had mentioned that it was too large for use with the brake lines - just wanted to emphasize that the clips for those brake lines is an entirely different clip! |

Is this the same as the one on the other side for the speedo cable or is that a bit smaller? |

Hello guys Been away on business so first chance I've had to go out to the shop. Here's a couple of pictures of the Denis Carpenter clip side by side with the clip sold by Moss. Regards Hiram ![]() |

The clip on the right is the brake line clip. On this clip the two prongs need to be bent slightly (not easy as they are spring steel) so that they are offset prior to installation, otherwise they won't slide past each other & which means one leg snaps off. I believe the originals were offset. At about $10 each here this is an expensive & frustrating manufacturing error. DAMHIK. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |
