MG TD TF 1500 - Wood on Top/Hood Bows
I need to replace the wood on the front of the bow framework, is there anything unusual about doing this? My wood is cracked and rotten in the corners and must be replaced. PJ |

I forgot to ask, are the mounts where it attaches to the car held with wood screws or capture nuts? PJ |
Paul S Jennings |
The new bow should have less of a curve (but not by much) than the top of the windscreen. This is to ensure it's a tight fit when in position and the screws are snugged up. Wood screws (brass or stainless) as I recall. |

I bought mine from Moss and it fit well. Jud |

Not sure where I got mine, but I did have to wet/clamp and bend it, as it was totally straight. |

Thanks guys, I'll get one from Moss. If I have to reshape it, so be it. PJ |

I had to wet and curve mine too. The top frame mounts with wood screws. I had to cut and reweld the front bar to make the thumbscrews match up with the posts on the windshield and I also made up steel brackets with drilled sleeves on them to ensure a good fit to the windshield posts. Sometimes its more difficult than you expect... And sometimes you get lucky... |

Sometimes its more difficult than you expect... And sometimes you get lucky... I've found that to be true on the whole car! Grin. PJ |

Another question. My wood over the windshield/windscreen was covered completely with fabric, is this how it was originally? PJ |
Paul S Jennings |
Yes... No visible wood |
Geoffrey M Baker |
Geoffrey is right that Abingdon covered to whole top rail with fabric but I thought the wood was attractive so I left the side visible to the passenger/driver uncovered. See http://www.ttalk.info/Hood/index.html Jud |

Jud did a very nice removable conversion Paul, worth looking at! Question for Paul... are you replacing your cloth top or just the wood? Because if you buy the Moss material kit it will include a separate piece just for wrapping the wood in the front, including the "eyebrows" that sit over the lip of the windshield. |
