MG TD TF 1500 - WSK-76 rawhide/steel seal

I've been trying to find where this seal goes for years. I got this in a pile-o-parts years ago for a T-series car but haven't had any luck. Any help please. Sam

How about a photo and measurements Sam. PJ

Would it be the seal in the bellhousing that goes round the gearbox first motion shaft - although not sure about the 76.

"Would it be the seal in the bellhousing that goes round the gearbox first motion shaft"

It could well be - when I repaired the transmission in our TD back when we first got it in 71, the first motion shaft seal was as you describe. That said, Paul is correct, a picture and some dimensions would make it much easier to tell if the seal is, in fact the one for the first motion shaft.

If the seal is for the first motion shaft, and if you intend to use it in your transmission, I would caution that you be very careful when installing it. When I reassembled the transmission, I didn't realize that as I slid the seal over the first motion shaft, the leather delaminated and a portion of it folded back on itself, causing excessive friction on the first motion shaft, which in turn, made it almost impossible to shift gears without grinding (as though I didn't have the clutch in. RA - Good guess but the manual sez WL-96 for a TD/TF. No mention for the TC. The OD of the steel shell is 46.7 mm or 1.840 in. Sam

Seal in bellhousing around first motion shaft. Diameter 1.83" or 46.5mm dia.

Other side.

Forgot to say - for TD, TF, Y. Probably not TB, TC, as Moss has different part numbers, so there must be a slight difference in size.

RA- looks like you were correct, I re-measured and found your specs to be correct. I don't have a clue as to what the WSK-76 stand for ! Thanks for your help. Sam

I bought the seal in February 1975 - I bought three at the same time - and I still have the receipt. However, it just states '3 oil seals' without giving any part numbers. Obviously expensive - £1.77 plus £0.20 postage to me, so £1.97 total.
