MG TD TF 1500 - WTB Red leather seat covers TF
I have what to some may seem a rather odd request. The TF I recently purchased is in very nice (almost original) condition, but well used. I am attempting to return it to the condition it was in when placed in storage some 40 years ago. I have accumulated just about every thing I need except a pair of good "used" red leather seat covers. I'm hoping someone has a half decent set laying around. Or am I wishing for the moon? I have to ask. Installing new ones just won't look right with the rest of the car. Thank you, Dan |

My car had a red interior. There were three layers of covers on the seats but the first layer was the original red leather. In addition there was some original red vinyl or Rexine here and there. I requested samples from all the usual suppliers and compared them with the original samples. The closest were Collingburn and NTG. In the end I decided to go for tan from Collingburn, however if I had chosen to go with red it would have been NTG. My suggestion therefore is if your search for good used covers is unsuccessful, request samples from NTG and see for yourself. Dave H |

What is NTG? Web site? thanks Frank |

Or you can use mgbits.com The grain and colour of their red interior samples was as close as you can get to the originals. Dave H |

Thank you all for the suggestions, but what I am chasing is a set of "used" red seat covers. I would like a set that has been used, not destroyed, that I can reinstall in my car. I am not restoring this car just resurrecting it. I want it to look its age. I am just about there. All I need is the seats. Would rather "not" use new. Thanks all |

Hi Daniel, I have a set of TF seats with the original, somewhat faded red upholstery in relatively good shape. It would make no sense in taking off the covers and then re-installing them on your frames. Perhaps we could do some sort of trade for the complete seats if your seat frames are in good condition. The usual shipping may be expensive but I could get them to Seattle fairly inexpensively. Cheers, Hugh |

Daniel, please ignore my previous post. I had another look at the seats and they are not original leather but have older after market covers. I do not think they would be suitable. My appologies! Cheers, Hugh |

Hugh, You've got mail. Dan |

Daniel, when you say "red" do you mean bright red like TC/TD or maroonish dark red as on some TF's. ?. The reason I ask is that I have the dark ones on my seats and later this spring will be changing to tan and will just toss the old ones in the bin. |
F. Driver |
Mr. Driver, I am not familiar with the dark red/maroonish you refer to, but I'd guess it's not what I have. When I look at the material that has been hidden for 60+ years, I would call it bright red. You are exactly the type of person I am pursuing. Someone who intends to upgrade. Thank you for the offer. Dan TF 7946 |
