MG TD TF 1500 - XPAG induction question

Did anyone ever produce a dual Weber DCOE intake manifold for XPAGs? Just curious as I’ve never seen one advertised in vintage journals or heard about anyone running Webers.

Bill,

They do exist, one on ebay at the moment.

John. I’ve seen that set up. But I’m referring to a dual side draft Weber’s set up.

What a project Bill, you have to do that
I've never seen Webers on an XPAG but it would have to be great
Probably have to find a manifold that is close like the one for cross flow MGB heads and modify the flanges--

https://www.piercemanifolds.com/product_p/99003.817.htm

or there are seperate manifolds like the 6 cyl Healey's have
A couple of those might be easier--

There's a mob here called Redline that make manifolds, might be worth asking the question

Maybe the Pierce manifold guys in Cali. could do one for you, they do weber manifolds and they do XPAG manifolds so they would have the CNC settings to machine the flanges-------??

Bill, to clarify, did you mean a setup with a single weber
DCOE, or with two DCOEs?
Wasn't sure if "dual" meant two separate DCOEs, or does it refer to one DCOE which of course has dual barrels.

R.T. Walsh

On eBay there is a guy who sells Pierce manifolds with re-welded flange fittings to fit an XPAG. I assume they are originally MGB manifolds or similar.

This question was posted on both forums, and there is more reply information on the other one. Seems limiting to post on both, but there you have it.

Bill: I cannot tell you who made the intake on images 7 and 9 nor if those are Weber carbs.

Those are Ford/Stromberg-type carbs on aftermarket American manifolds, and unrelated to Weber carbs.

I should have said Ford/Stromberg/Holley carbs, as they all made them.

That manifold would look nice with a pair of 97s on it!

Chris this is the type of carb setup I’m inquiring about. Picture provided by LaVerne. Apparently this was a car Dan Craig had worked on.

You'd have to pull a fuel trailer with that setup. :-)

On the other hand, here is an eBay listing for a pair of 40DCOE Weber's and manifold for a Spitfire 1500, so it may be possible after all!

Yesterday, I popped this same question to Lawrie Alexander who said he had tried them on his race car at one time. The hardest part was fabricating the manifold and runners and that he didn’t get it dialed in to his liking. He didn’t say how long it hoe much effort he put into it. I don’t see the fabrication of flanges and matching the tubing to fit the ports to be particularly difficult. I would think getting the jetting dialed in would be the bigger issue

The jetting isn't an issue Bill
There are plenty of guides to selecting sizes etc
The sequence is to select the correct size venturi for your engine, then this will determine what size carbs(body/butterfly) and then the initial jetting can be worked out fairly acurately from there--then there might be a slight adjustment needed to main jet or airbleed size depending on exhaust system efficiency etc--But basically they're not as evil as most people think

There is no takeoff point for a vac. advance distributor and they like a nice healthy amount of early ign. timing so a distributor recurve will probably be needed if you are running a vac advance dist.

Just recently fiddled with a set of tripple 45s on a nissan 2.8 which were way oversize for the size of the engine but with the carefull selection of venturis and emulsion tubes etc,it's flying

If you go ahead with the project, yell out and I'll work out roughly what you need so that you can be in the ballpark when you go shopping
