MG TD TF 1500 - XPAG motors
Cheers! Over the next year I am planning to recondition 12-15 TC/D/F orphan motors. Not sure if I want to offer them with crankshaft and/or pistons or just finished & machined block. I could also offer with correct number if you have the brass tag. I would be interested to hear your thoughts & needs off group/BBS at my mailbox OOPS1947@metalfan.com. |

Just for the heck of it how are you planning on addressing the stamped number in the block? |
Christopher Couper |
re-stamping a block to match an existing brass tag seems a bit unethical to me. Matching numbers on T-Series cars does not seem to be that significant of an issue really. |

Just out of curiosity, where did you get 12-15 motors? |

I've been looking for a TC engine. Now I know where they all went! I don't suppose you want to sell one without rebuilding it first? |

Sounds great except for the number part. That is fraud. George |

I personally believe the original numbers should remain as installed on the engine at the factory and the tag should conform to this number. Making an engine look like it was a matching number for a particular car is not the way we think. There is nothing wrong with a replacement engine, as long as it was the original type for the car in mention. I personally would not buy one if I knew the numbers were changed! As George said, that is fraud! PJ |

Not sure what happens in the States but here both engine & chassis numbers are recorded. Any change of engine must be notified to the registering authority & recorded. This is to ensure that stolen engines aren't passed on to unsuspecting buyers. It is illegal here to alter the engine number that was stamped into the block at manufacture. I'd be very surprised if the same didn't apply in Indiana. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

If I were in the market for a T-Series, I couldn't care less if the numbers "matched". After all, one can buy a blank brass tag and stamp it to meet the need. "Matching Number" is a joke! Not all blocks had the number stamped into them. This is the case for both my PA and my TF. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

Paul, I agree with you 100%. Back in my younger and dumber days I bought a 67 Chevrolet Camero conv which was billed as a Super Sport and later on I discovered it was a clone. I know, I should have checked it out but didn't. Not happy, but still have the car, love it, but would never try to pass it off as something it ain't. I have to sleep at night. Just my $.02 worth. What are you expecting to get for a TC unrestored block with original main bearing caps. |
