Triumph TR3 - Aero Screens for 3A

I am in the process of restoring a 3A (TS58476L). I am trying to find info regarding the optional aero screens. Does anyone know who the original suplier was? Are there any good references on this topic, e.g. regarding dimensions, fitting, etc. Thanks

Check with the usual TR parts suppliers if they have them. The ones I see these days are not like the originals. Since your Comm. No. indicates your TR3A is an "early" TR3A, you may have the chrome hex bolts mounted up on the cowling near to the wipers but on the dashboard side of the windscreen. My early TR3A has them. These were for mounting the original areo-screens.

The reprduction aero-screens are very similar but the bases come with a flared out flange where two screws mount each base to the cowling. That means drilling 8 new holes in the cowling - near the chrome hex bolts designed there for the same purpose.

Let us know if you find who still makes the original ones for our early TR's.

Frank - Check if you have these four chromed hex bolts on your cowling. They should be near both outlets for the defroster on each side - not too far from the mirror above the dashboard. If you do, we may be in luck. I have been checking in England and there is a chap who has been thinking of re-manufacturing the original bases to fit our "early" TR sidescreen cars. I know that after TR3A Comm. No. 60001, these hex bolts were no longer standard equipment.

If you are interested in having the ones like the originals, let me know. I plan to follow up on this in the near future. If there is enough interest, I hope to meet him when I'm over in England in May.

I would be very interested in a "proper reproduction of the aero screen bases.

Thanks-Frank

I have a sample of what I am told is an original screen
Can somebody let me know the hole centers for the chrome hex bolts - also do you know of a picture that shows an orig. screen?
Want to ensure its correct before I get some made !!

The ones that are avaliable in England are the Brooklands type and are designed to fit pre-war MGs with the two bumps on the scuttle. Whilst they are good quality, they are not correct for Triumphs.

Steve - You should check the TR Register Forum Bulletin Board where I asked this same question.

Ken Mumford in Perivale will have 200 made exactly as his original in about 6 to 8 weeks. It will be larger than the Brooklands as the original TR option and will include the embossed Brand name and part number, etc. cast into the casting as the originals. Also it will have a rubber "shirt" like we have on our full size windscreens along the bottom to keep wind, rain and/or mud from splashing under (just like the originals).

My TR is still under it's winter cover and I can't get at it easily to give you the measure you asked for.

I plan to visit Ken near the end of May to see one for myself.

Don: This is great! How can I contact Ken and express my interest regarding these?

Many thanks,

Frank

Don: Where is Perivale?

Thanks,

Ken doesn't have e-mail. Perivale is just west of London, England. His direct phone number in England from USA is 011 44 208 998 1626.

Remember if you call him - when it's 7 PM in Pennsylvania, it's Midnight in England.

I'll be seeing Ken at the end of may if and when they are ready.
