Triumph TR3 - Bumper Cars

I'm searching for a front bumper to grace the nose of my TR3A. The PPO (two POs ago) ran it without a bumper, but he instead had two overriders bolted on horizontally. They've gouged the body a bit, look funky and have got to go.

All suggestions for the economical sourcing of said bumper, including mounting hardware (I believe I have the proper two mounting brackets) would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Bill - I believe the usual parts suppliers have front bumpers. They are not like the originals. The newer ones are mad on poorer tooling dies and where they curve around the front fenders, the ends kind of stick out at about 45 degrees like they are "plowing ahead into the wind". Mine is the original bumper and even though it was badly pitted, chipped, rusted and bent (I used to do a lot of gravel road rallies with "TRusty" and once I hit a fence post right in the center at 3 AM) I had them straighten it back into the correct shape and then they re-chromed it.

The original ones where they go around the fender at each end curve back in towards the paintwork of the front fender... ie. they don't stick out.

If you can find an original, it will look better, I think. But your car will look OK with a "re-manufactured" one. At least a lot better than 2 bumperettes sideways. I think I may have seen that car at Red Wing in Minnesota in July at VTR. Is that possible ?

Don,

Thanks for the tip on the repros. I'm keen to find an original and do the rechroming if needed.

The PO did not stray far from Indy over the last 11 years, so I doubt if the car was even out of state. Possibly it's an evolving fashion trend driven by scarcity.

Keep an eye peeled for those castoffs...

Thanks.

Bill, Congraulation or your recent purchase. Someone who might be of help on the bumper could be Paul Oglesby in Madisonville, KY. I have gotten alot of parts for my 58 TR3A. Last year I bought a set of NOS Stone Guards, they still had the crate paper wrapper marked StanPart dated 1959. Paul has two building, one has nothing but NOS part for TR, MG, Jag, well all British. The other is all used parts. He can be contacted at 270 825-2994

Thanks for the lead on Oglesby, Russ. As it happens, I'm here in Louisville for the next eight days attending a meeting. I'll call him and see what I can find on my search list.

I see you're just south of me. Hope we have a chance to meet someday soon.

Best regards,

Hi All:
When I rebuilt an MGA a few years ago I bought a new front bumper and found ,not only was it poor in shape as Don says but also the chrome peeled like an onion skin after about one year. The moral of the story is find a good original and get it rechromed.
