Triumph TR3 - Convertible top question

Hey guys, it's me again, the MG guy. This time I have a question about a convertible top. It seems that the new top has a flap (?) of sorts at the front of the top where the Tenax fasteners go. It almost looks like an attached sun visor. The old, original top does not have this flap. Other than this flap the top looks correct. Any ideas would be helpful.
Thanks
john

John That flap goes between the Tenax fasteners and the wind screen. You will need to punch out a hole in the flap ( I think I did mine at 5/16 in) My top was from The Roadster Factory and the two layers of the flap were fused together in the area where the hole had to be punched. Serves as a weather seal between the top and the windscreen. And it works too.
Good luck!

Roadster Factory have a sketch explaining how it should be done. I punched holes a little larger than the hex base on the Tenax pegs.

Ask TRF to send you the sketch.

John,
I had the same question after getting the top from TRF. Don is correct that TRF has a very helpfull sketch and they faxed it immediately. It was obvious that this is a request they frequently receive.

Thanks for the help. I got a drawing that pretty much explains hoe to do this installation. My next question is, There is an existing seal at the top of the windshield, does this seal have to be removed for the top to attach to the Tenax studs? It seems that with the hole punched in the extra seal, plus the original seal on the windshield frame, the Tenax snap will not snap in place.

The black rubber seal that runs along the top of the frame stays where it is. The fabric top bends down over this rubber seal and the Tenax part in the top attachs to the Tenax post. But before you attach it. the extra part (now with the holes punched in it) folds back up so the holes fit over the Tenax posts - then the outer Tenax part is pushed down through the hole and onto the post.

All this is done with the struts for the top in a loose position. After all the Tenax fasteners are done along the front, reach into the back facing rearward and pull up on the roof struts to "pop" the struts up into position. The top should be tight after all this.

Further to what Don said, I put all the windscreen Tenax fasteners on first. The hole that you make will fit over the hex on the Tenax post as Don indicated. I then do the fasteners across the back leaving the two fasteners on each side. Once I "pop the struts up" ( I do mine while sitting in the seat) I snap the final 4 fasteners down. I find if I try to put the struts up with the side fasteners on..... no go.
