Triumph TR3 - dash rail padding?

I need to cover the dash rail of a late 59 TR3A. Is there some kind of padding under the vinyl in the cockpit capping rails?

Thanks.

There is no padding under this rail, It is just vinyl glued to the aliminun rail.

Wasn't the material originally leather? I used vinyl, too. But my feeble brain says leather. Sorry if I'm wrong. Anyway, no padding.
Tom

No, it was vinyl. I just replaced mine.

I believe the side rails did have cotton padding. If I recall correctley there was not much, but there was some padding.

The cotton padding was on the doortop rails, wrapped over a core of foam rubber. These rails and the piece that ran from the back of the door to the rear cockpit trim were leather covered, the rest of the cockpit trim was vinyl, except for the seats.

I had a 1960 TR3A in 1966 and the dash capping, door capping and elbow capping behind the doors were all leather covered without padding except the doors as was mentioned. The TR3B which I bought for restoration was the same. The leather was not the easiest to work with but makes a great appearance and is well worth the effort. The tonneau capping around the back of the cockpit is vinyl. I got all of the material to do the interior from TRF and was very satisfied.
