Triumph TR3 - Searching for LUCAS Dist. Cap
In my continuing effort to complete the originality of my early TR3A , I am looking for an original "LUCAS" distributor cap. Looking at the top of the distributor cap with the 5 wires pointing downward, the raised lettering for the word "LUCAS" is readable at the top rear - arched from left to right. And below this, in a straight line (also raised) are the words "Made in England". I have several like this where the words are upside down. These are not Triumph originals. They came from various MG's where the distributor comes out the engine block lower down and the wires aim up to the sparking plugs. Heaven forbid ! I can't have an MG part on my TR. If anyone has one exactly as described for sale, contact me and include the cost. Don Elliott - I lost a point last summer in the TRA Nat'l Concours because of this and the beady eyes of a bright TR Concours judge. http://www.tr-register.co.uk/images/memberscars/trusty.jpg |

Don I will look through my boxes of spares. If I have one it will be used but it's yours. |

Don I just had a look in the Moss cat. and they advertise part # 151-740 Distributor cap (Lucas). Is this not the one? Anything else you are having trouble finding? Brian |

Thank you Brian for your input. This is the only part I'm looking for. I called Moss and they don't have the one you mentioned in stock. So I'll just keep looking. It's not like I can't drive. It's just that I may lose another point in the TRA concours. I've driven "TRusty" like this with very few problems for over 78,000 miles in the last 14 summers. I have looked at the 2 I have here at the house, and they're both upside down LUCAS. I have 2 or 3 more to look at nearby, maybe tomorrow. There must be one somewhere. Don't think I have seen one before, but I never knew they existed, so never thought about it. Would be nice to have it upright, wouldn't it? Are they brown bakelite-like material? |

Don: I knew I had an extra in my spare parts bins and I recall it being brown and old looking w/ raised letters. But alas, it's an upside-down MG type. Yikes! If I see one anywhere, I'll let you know... Mike |

Thanks all for your input. I couldn't reply as I just spent 2 weeks in England. A Brit (who lives in So. France) shipped me just what I needed to my London address and now it is on my TR. Don Elliott |
