Triumph TR3 - Seat Kits

I am trying to recover my TR3 seats with a kit from the Roadster Factory without much success. The old seat cushion has the "horsehair" mat, then burlap arount the skirt. The kit has small foam strips, and a roll of vinyl. The "horsehair" can be reused, but I do not know where the foam strips or the roll of vinyl goes. Roadster Factory was not much help. The seat cushion is one piece including the skirt. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think that the foam and the long vinyl strip have to be for the seat pans. When you take out the 8 bolts that secure the seat pans to the floor, there should be some trim about 1 to 1.5" high all around the seat pans.

After taking off the old vinyl, you will find same foam stuck to the vertical edge of the seat pans. Scrape this off and when it's all clean and ready to go, spray some contact cement onto the vertical flange of the seat pans and apply the foam.. Likewise for the vinyl trim strips you mentioned.

That would be my guess.

Don,

Thanks for the input, but the vinyl strip in the kit is 6 inches wide. The only possible use I could think of was as a stiffener behind the spring skirt. The foam pieces are about 6-8 inches long with 8-10 strips on one piece of fabric backing. The only thing that I thought that might be for is a cheap way to stuff the seat back.

I suggest you ask the Ohio TR clubs the name of somone who can fit the new skins to the seats. Are you a member of TRA ? There are places where 6" is needed. For example - where the seat pan gets higher near where the passenger's seat is bolted to pivot forward.

Would the pieces be long enough to go all around the seat pan ?

Don,

I belong to the Nothcoast Triumph Association, and was thinking about joining TRA but haven't yet.

The fabric is in 1 pc, but long enough to go around both seat pans.

Have you asked Rick Morris, Darrell Floyd or Bob Palmer for an opinion and who you get you the info - or do it for you ?
