Triumph TR3 - water pump rebuild

I rebuilt my water pump on my TR3A about 10 years ago with some info gotten from some club I believe---went to a local(at the time) Massey-Fergeson dealer(since out of busness), they had the seal I needed....The pump gave up yesterday and I'm wondering does anybody has info, such as parts, seals, bearings, clips and where to get the parts?

I got a rebuild kit from Moss, but it was more than 10 years ago. I do remember having to have the pump body reamed out for the new (bigger) shaft. I live in farm country, so if it were me I'd try tractor supply, a generic farm chain store. Maybe even auto parts places have tractor repair parts, never tried, but if another pump goes, I will. There are websites for old tractors, ask there.

Thanks for the info..got the repro from Moss to get the car on the road...having a spare in the trunk on trips would't hurt though....Joe

You cannot get the bearings for the original pumps anymore, anywhere. People have searched high and low.
The seal kit from the MF dealers though, is still available. You need to ask for the one for the Ferguson TEA20 tractors, which had the Standard Motor Company engines.

Maybe that's why they included a larger shaft with my kit. There are bearings available with the same outside but not the same inside diameter? Just a theory.

When I restored my TR3A from 1987 to 1990, I needed a new water pump and that was one of the many items I bought from Cox and Buckles when they were still on Manor Road in Richmond-on-Thames. When it came time to put it in, I noticed that the impeller on the new pump was made of cast iron and was smaller than the brass impeller on my original pump. Also the new one didn't have a grease fitting which would have deducted a part of a point by any good TRA concours judge. So my neighbour turned a new shaft out of stainless steel on his lathe, put in new bearings for the new shaft as well as the grease fitting. he also replaced the cast iron impeller with the original brass one.

This pump will never rust and has done me just fine over the last 15 years and 83,000 miles.
