Triumph TR6 - 1973TR6 injection system

Hi you TR folks maybe someone can help here , I have been the owner of a 1973TR6 since new, this vehicle was bought and driven in england for 7yrs and only has 46,000 on the clock, I came to canada in 1980 and left the vehicle garaged for 10yrs in england at my mothers, on her passing 25yrs ago I had it shipped over to canada as I couldnt sell it on such short notice, I had a problem getting it licenced due to emmisions regulations, and finaly got that sorted some 10yrs ago, now as the car has been unused for such a while theres issues with the fuel injection ,needs a new pump probably I was told ,have had it looked at by a specialist (so called) in Barrie, just cost a pile of cash and no possitive result, basicaly no one seems to know how to work on the fuel injected version , maybe I have the only one in Canada who knows, anyway is there anyone out there who knows someone specialised in this injection system so I can get it back on road before I croak, would be cool to accompany your band of t-r-ers on road trips....loook forward to maybe some replies... .thanks .. Bill PS.. its in fantastic shape bodily original paint, magenta, no negligable rust

Welcome to the BBS Bill

Where are you in Canada? Near Barrie? We are in Georgetown.

You are correct - there isn't a lot of experience with the fuel injection in Canada. You can try J D Automotive in Rexdale (north west Toronto) for a start

301 Rexdale Blvd 416-746-1048 He works on a lot of TR 6's and he may have some experience or may know where to go.

I have toyed with converting mine to FI and had opportunity to buy a system on e bay out of Australia a number of years ago but I chickened out at the price and whether my conversion would be successful. I would welcome the challenge on yours but could not promise it will be a whole lot better (though it might be) and also could not promise a fast turn around.

I would think a good cleaning and overhaul of what you have should be all that is needed.

Would love to take a road trip as well. We have organized a few in the past. Another one is due. We'll try to get something going when the weather turns a little more favourable.

Thank you Michael, Im in collingwood actually, thanks for the mechanic recomendation Ill call him and see what he may be able to recomend, I intend to get motivated this year on getting it road worthy again, not being too mechanicly inclined has been the hold up, spending bags full of cash to mechanics who dont really know how to work on the system has been a drag also, going on a tangent I have hip surgery this week so when I get mobile again Ill be able to get at the job in hand, thanks again for the info........Bill

Hello Bill,

That thread or site could be usefull:

For Bosch pumps. hi-pressure FI systems were commons on Volvo 240 in 1979. You could find a substitute easily.

Good luck with the hip surgery Bill. And Collingwood is a beautiful area for a road trip.

And as Don and Jean showed- you will find this BBS very helpful.

Hi Bill there are plenty of specialist over here in the UK are you still looking? Not sure what the postage etc would be, MU refurb is about £100gbp, pump about the same, injectors about £10 each.
