Triumph TR6 - 1975 TR6 window channel

I am nearing the completion of a body off restoration and came to a brick wall. I cannot find a good used nor new :
channel assembly left hand side with felt and mounting bracket Moss part number 803-270

The part is on back order and none are available.

Does anyone have a good used one for sale?

Thanks
Russ Little

Hi Russ

If you have the old one, you might want to try rebuilding it. I cleaned mine up and painted it. I used contact cement and the soft side of a Velcro strip. After applying the contact cement in the channel, I used a popsicle stick to run the Velcro fabric into the channel. You can trim the strip back as needed. Worked great. Window channel been in use since 2005.

I might have one (no guarantees) but all my spare stuff is stored in a barn 150 miles from here and I although don't have firm plans to visit the barn, I do have intentions to do it in the next 4-6 weeks.

If you haven't found one before I visit the barn I will see what I can find.

Thanks -- I will try it. I did buy the replacement felt from one of the major British car suppliers and it was a bit wide to fit in channel. When I tried sliding the felt just bundled up and with the plastic guide pieces one cannot drop in.

Hello Russ -

I am not sure which parts distributors you have been reaching out to but The Roadster Factory (TRF) usually has these in stock under part number RFK733 for a few bucks less than Moss. If they don't have them in stock I would go direct to Rimmer Brothers in the UK. I have also discovered that almost all of the good quality parts that TRF sells come from Rimmer Brothers and are marked up and re sold. You will find that even with the exchange rate and over seas shipping you can not only still save money (10% on average) but also get the parts sooner than through TRF.
I hope none of TRF guys see this post... LOL...

Russ, have you checked out Bobby's site on rebuilding it?

DNK --- thanks for the great link ---- for just $7.00 I rebuilt the channel with the Velcro instructions. While I was doing that I also ground out and replaced the rivets as on brackets were sloppy. Just like new.

One more favor ... would it be possible for you to take a picture of the front part of the door (hinge side) as I purchased new rubber seals and it is unclear exact location. In April 2011 I started this body off restoration and I am in the final stages. 0Need to finish the seats, door window assembly and refit new soft top. I even tagged the car last week :)

I bought the car for $3500 and it was a pretty much rust free car that needed complete rebuilding. Not counting hundreds of hours of my and friends labor I have a tad over $15,000 invested. Not too bad -- tried to keep it as an investment and not have a car that cost more than it is worth.

Somebody will have to help Russ with this

Russ

I don't know if I have what you need but I took 3 pictures. Upper part, center and lower. see this and nest 2 posts. The white you see is dust.

let me know if you need different angle or spot.

Michael Petryschuk

Perfect ...I ordered the seals but it seems the top piece is lacking from delivery. I got the long strip seals. The 3 angles did the trick!

Many thanks.

I tagged the car last week so after 4 years my confidence level is getting completed is high. once I complete I will add some photos --- before and after

I already purchased my next project --- 1968 MGB GT. The seller took all apart and then lost interest. He did a reasonable job of tagging parts.

Being retired this keeps both mind and body busy :)

Thanks again

Russ, A little late but I hope you got your seals at MacGregore's if not

Enjoy driving Russ. It makes the effort worth while. I only wish I could get 12 months of the year driving weather like in FLA

Don

Are you referring to McGregor's in Dundas Ontario? About a 45 minute drive from here for me. I picked up some TR6 floor mats from him. Very nice stuff.

Russ- for the right price I will pick up your order from McGregors and run it down to you. :-)

Enjoy the 6 and enjoy the MGB project. My daughter's boyfriend picked up an MGB last year.

I have another 69 TR6 currently in parts as my next project (when the boss says I can start it)
