Rick; I've got to admit that's one beautiful TR6. I'm having a little trouble with the 4.1 litre concept though. Wish I had one in my 72.

Looks like I better up the insurance. 25K..that is a lot...It is unmolested though. You would think the "original owner" would have a better clue as to what is under the bonnett. The colour would be my last choice.
Ya goota love an "optional" 7000 RPM TACH.

Are there any 4100 CC 6-pack out there? If there is any, then this is not original.
Paddy
Paddy

Wow, $25K. US$ even. :)

One thing that surprised me is that the foam on the seats seems to be mooshed. For example, the side pads look limp. I thought this happens because of use/mileage, but the car only has 11K miles on it. Would the foam just give out after 28 years?

A bog stock hundred horsepower TR6 for $25k; good for the show and shine crowd I guess.
John Parfitt

This one still doesn't beat the one that brought over 27k last year.

Hi All,

You guys in the USA are lucky. Looks like the TR6 is much more expensive in Europa. One like the E-bay TR (with or without a 4.1 litre engine !)would sell here for about $ 35.000,00!

My Tr6 is good, normal mileage (78.000), USA import, some options, but mostly stock:
insurance rapport is about $ 22.000, and I will not sell under $ 18.000.

The parts are also much cheaper then in Europa.

I Think i'm gonna move your way !

I think for that sort of money I'd be looking for better door gaps!!

What's with the 4.1L engine?? Was this ever an option? Can you get that much displacement from the stock 2.5L engine with boring/stroking etc? I agree with Rick...the color would not be a choice at all:(

Ignatius,
Foam just disintegated over time. All you need to do is sit on it a few time after 30 years.

db
The only way to get 4.1L out of a stock 2.5L (2459CC)is to add a few more ponies to her, change the design of the engine so 4 ponies are on one side and 4 on the other then call her a TRV8. No, there is no such thing as a 4.1L TR6 and there is absolutely no way to make 4100CC out of a 2459CC engine.
db, I was being polite when I said last choice of colour:)
You e-bay fever guys....would this be considered grose misrepresentation, and be grounds for purchaser to back out? Also, like I commented, 7000RPM "optional" tach...HUH?
Rick C
Rick Crawford

Technically, it is misrepresentation. But, it appears that the car's specs were written-up by a car dealer, not the owner. I've seen this happen many times since the dealer really knows nothing about the car. One would think that anyone putting that amount of cash in a TR6 would certainly know what TR's are all about and have asked for, and received, the necessary clarifications.

Despite the dealer's description and assuming the car is completely authentic, I believe the winning bid is reasonable.

I think the writer tried to convert 250 cubic inches to get 4.1 liters. My '71 is rough by comparison but I don't worry when a seagull gets to close!

Charlie
EC Smith

I noticed the Leyland house badges on the front wings are missing from the car. Was this normal for a '76?

While we're pickin'....."Leather seats"????

Hey guys, lets get the new owner on the BBS to tell us all about how this thing will perform, now that he has it:) Paint sure looks new. Maybe the odometer just turned over and it's really 111000 and a recent paint job.

D R Baker

There a new one: 3600 miles !!, with a V6 !!

Eric de Lange

Looks like the same car !
Don K.
DON KELLY

Not the same. This one has black interior.
If this is a V6, then mine is '" V6 "' too.
Paddy
Paddy

This TR6 appears bogus. The dash is the wrong dark shade and looks too new. The tyres are red lines but are not Michelin...they should be (Michelin) with only 3600 miles!

Has anyone seen that kind of pinstripe on an ORIGINAL TR6?? and what is with this colour? The door/window weather strip looks pretty good for a 28 year old car:)
According to documentation, the front turn/park lenses where amber/amber for '76 not amber/white.
The gear shift knob is not original.
I think there should also be an emissions label on LH wheel arch ( may be wrong here).
I for one know my TR6 and it does not have a V6 in it...SELLER/OWNER....HELLO!!!!
Also the VIN number is not posted...are we hiding something?
It does not appear to have OD.

A little math... 28 yrs old, say drove it 10 miles, and only 1/3 of the number of Sundays in 28 yrs (10x17x28=4760 miles)....UMMMMM...must have been VERY special occasions and Sundays.

If it sounds to good to be true then it probably is.
Rick C
Rick Crawford

Mine is 86042 miles or I can say it has 13958 miles left to be a NEW one. Every mile I put in, my car value goes up. haha! Happy motoring!
Paddy
Paddy

I wonder how many more TR6s will come out of the shed all with low "original mileage" - oh yeh and "original" leather seats as Rod noted! I'm surprised that this isnt an Arizona car too!
Michael

It'll be a sad day when the new owner finds this thread.

Rick O.
Rick Orthen

Can't say I've ever purchased a car off anyone with the handle bgkahuna. Or billyjoebobmarlywhit whatever. But hey he may be the original owner as he sort of maybe I think states????

Slight possibility the original owners are finally unloading the cars since all of there friends have passed away and stopped razzing them about the color???

Think Billyjoebob has really big Kahunas and is running a bait and switch. By the looks of the disclaimer his brother Bobbyjoebilly may be a lawyer.

Keep us posted RickO

Rick C....
I wondered about the emission label as well. checked three other (1976) cars on ebay...one had none at all, one on the inner fender, one on the bonnet. Who knows? If you chased down the sellers link to more pix, you saw fresh undercoat. What's up with that??? More than a few things seem a bit odd about this one. But hey, if the buyer is happy with his purchase, who are we to question it? He could have ended up with a much worse car....like the one I walked away from here in Boise 2 years ago at $7000 (horrible wreck, bad repair), saw it go ebay a while back for over $11000.
I don't know if I wanna add up my receipts from the last 2 years, it might just plain scare me how much I really put in mine. Rick O, yer right, I wouldn't wanna be the guy going on the internet looking for a little info about re-doing seat foams and find this....

happy moToRing.....
Rod
Rod Nichols

In defense of the V-6 thing, I have put cars on e-bay and it does not have a way to put I-6 or V-6 it just has a box to check 6 cylinder. You can also notice that a good many of the convertibles are listed as "sunroof". I don't know why any of you are surprised at these prices when we see Austin Healys bring 85k at auction.
Gene Holtzclaw

Wonder what the TR-to-Healy production ratio is . . . 4 to 1? 100 to 1? I know the TR production dwarfed the Healy. The rarity of the Healy accounts for a large portion of its value.

Rick O.
Rick Orthen

I would agree with that. It is just that except for the larger displacement, the TR6 seems to me much better than a Healy. Another thing I don't understand is the price of e-types to healys. An e-type seems a much better buy dollar for dollar.
